Dick Reynolds (musician)
Richard Eastis Reynolds was an American musician, songwriter, and trombonist who was an arranger for the Four Freshmen. He also arranged for Frank Sinatra and authored "If I Ever Love Again", which Sinatra recorded in 1949. Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys said of Reynolds: "e'sjust about a god to me. His work is the greatest, and the Freshmen's execution is too much." Reynolds was later employed by Wilson for the recording of ''The Beach Boys' Christmas Album'' (1964) and '' Adult/Child'' (unreleased, 1977). Trombone
The trombone (german: Posaune, Italian, French: ''trombone'') is a musical instrument in the Brass instrument, brass family. As with all brass instruments, sound is produced when the player's vibrating lips cause the Standing wave, air column inside the instrument to vibrate. Nearly all trombones use a telescoping slide mechanism to alter the Pitch (music), pitch instead of the brass instrument valve, valves used by other brass instruments. The valve trombone is an exception, using three valves similar to those on a trumpet, and the superbone has valves and a slide. The word "trombone" derives from Italian ''tromba'' (trumpet) and ''-one'' (a suffix meaning "large"), so the name means "large trumpet". The trombone has a predominantly cylindrical bore like the trumpet, in contrast to the more conical brass instruments like the cornet, the euphonium, and the French horn. Boots Randolph
Homer Louis "Boots" Randolph III (June 3, 1927 – July 3, 2007) was an American musician best known for his 1963 saxophone hit "Yakety Sax" (which became Benny Hill's signature tune). Randolph was a major part of the "Nashville sound" for most of his professional career. Biography Randolph was born in Paducah, Kentucky, United States, and raised in Cadiz, Kentucky, attending high school in Evansville, Indiana. As a child, he learned to play music with his family's band. He was not sure where or why he acquired the nickname "Boots", although it may have served to avoid confusion since his father and he had the same first name. He started out playing the ukulele and trombone, but switched to tenor saxophone when his father unexpectedly brought one home. At the end of World War II, Boots Randolph played saxophone, trombone, and vibraphone in the United States Army Band. Jack Rhodes
Andrew Jackson "Jack" Rhodes (January 12, 1907 – October 9, 1968) was an American country music producer and songwriter, with songwriting credits on over 625 released songs. Several of his songs became hit records, including "A Satisfied Mind", "Silver Threads and Golden Needles", "Conscience I'm Guilty", "The Waltz of the Angels", "Beautiful Lies", and "Till the Last Leaf Shall Fall". Inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame posthumously in 1972, he was more recently celebrated as one of the founding fathers of rockabilly, having written for Gene Vincent and Capitol Records. He was inducted into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame in 2009. Jack Rhodes memorabilia is on exhibit at the Mineola Historical Museum in Mineola, Texas and the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in Nashville. The Four Freshmen
The Four Freshmen is an American male vocal quartet that blends open-harmonic jazz arrangements with the big band vocal group sounds of The Modernaires, The Pied Pipers, and The Mel-Tones, founded in the barbershop tradition. The singers accompany themselves on guitar, horns, bass, and drums, among other instrumental configurations. The group was founded in 1948 in Indiana and reached its peak popularity in the mid-1950s. The last original member retired in 1993, but the group continues to tour internationally. ''Adult/Child'' (sometimes typeset as ''Adult Child'') is an unreleased studio album by the American rock band the Beach Boys that was produced in early 1977. Similar to their previous effort, ''The Beach Boys Love You'', the album was essentially a solo effort by the band's chief songwriter and producer, Brian Wilson. It consists of seven new songs, four of which feature orchestral arrangements by Dick Reynolds, along with five older tracks that had been unreleased by the band. Lyric topics range from healthy diets and exercise to shaving a tomboy's legs and waiting at a movie theater queue. Some of the tracks, including "It's Over Now" and "Still I Dream of It", were originally written to be recorded by a singer such as Frank Sinatra. Although it was scheduled to be issued in September 1977, the release was vetoed by Wilson's bandmates Mike Love and Al Jardine, who felt that the record was too strange to sell. ''The Beach Boys' Christmas Album'' is the seventh studio album by the American rock music, rock band the Beach Boys, released November 9, 1964 on Capitol Records. It contains five original songs and seven standards on a Christmas music, Christmas theme. The album proved to be a long-running success during subsequent Christmas seasons, initially reaching No. 6 on ''Billboard (magazine), Billboards Christmas LP's chart in its initial release and eventually going Music recording certification, gold. Music historian James Perone wrote that it is "regarded as one of the finest holiday albums of the rock era".
