Dick Monteith (politician)
Richard J. Monteith (born February 7, 1932, in Los Banos, CA) is an American politician from California and a member of the Republican Party. State Senate A conservative businessman in the agriculture industry, Monteith ran for California State Senate in 1994 against three term Democratic incumbent Dan McCorquodale. The 12th District, formerly based eastern Santa Clara County, shifted entirely into the conservative Central Valley after reapportionment, taking away McCorquodale's natural home advantage. Monteith won in an upset (thanks to that year's GOP tide) and handily won a nasty reelection battle in 1998 against former Democratic Assemblyman Sal Cannella. Los Banos ( ), alternatively Los Baños ( ), is a city in Merced County, California, United States. It is located in the San Joaquin Valley in central California, near the junction of State Route 152 and Interstate 5. Its population was 45,532 at the 2020 census, up from 35,972 at the 2010 census. The city is served by Los Banos Municipal Airport for air transport access. Etymology The town's Spanish name ''Los Baños'' means "the baths"; it is named after a spring that feeds natural wetlands in the western San Joaquín Valley. Gary Condit
Gary Adrian Condit (born April 21, 1948) is an American former politician who represented California's 18th congressional district in the House of Representatives from 1989 to 2003. He gained significant national attention for an extramarital affair with Chandra Levy, an intern with the Federal Bureau of Prisons. The affair was publicized after Levy's disappearance in May 2001 and the discovery of Levy's remains a year later. Although Condit was never formally a suspect in Levy's disappearance and murder, he lost the 2002 Democratic primary based in large part on negative publicity from the scandal. Dennis Cardoza
Dennis Alan Cardoza (born March 31, 1959) is an American politician who served as the U.S. representative for from 2003 to 2012. The district took in a large swath of the Central Valley, from Stockton to Fresno. He is a member of the Democratic Party. On October 20, 2011, he announced he would retire from Congress at the end of 2012. He first won election to Congress after defeating Congressman Gary Condit in the March 2002 Democratic Party primary election. Sal Cannella (born September 23, 1942) is an American politician who served as a member of the California State Assembly from 1990 to 1996. Early life Cannella was born in 1942 in Newark, New Jersey. In 1953, he moved with his family to Stanislaus County, California. He graduated from Ceres High School in Ceres, California. Career Local government Cannella served on the Ceres City Council from 1976 until 1980 and as Mayor of Ceres from 1980 until 1982, when he was elected to the Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors.
