Dicastery For Culture And Education
The Dicastery for Culture and Education is an administrative unit of the Roman Curia. It began operations on 5 June 2022 as established by the apostolic constitution ''Praedicate evangelium'' promulgated on 19 March 2022. It was formed through the merger of two earlier bodies, the Pontifical Council for Culture and the Congregation for Catholic Education. At the time of the merger, each of these bodies was headed by a cardinal of retirement age: Gianfranco Ravasi as president of the Council for Culture and Giuseppe Versaldi as prefect of the Congregation for Education. Speculation that the new dicastery would be led by someone else, possibly even a lay person, proved partly correct when Cardinal José Tolentino de Mendonça was named prefect of the new dicastery in September 2022. The Pontifical Academy of Saint Thomas Aquinas (PAST; la, Pontificia Academia Sancti Thomae Aquinati) is a pontifical academy established on 15 October 1879 by Pope Leo XIII. The academy is one of the pontifical academies housed along with the academies of science at Casina Pio IV in Vatican City, Rome. History The Pontifical Academy of St. Thomas Aquinas was established on 15 October 1879 by Leo XIII, who approved its statutes with a brief of 9 May 1895. Leo appointed his brother, Giuseppe Pecci (1879–1890) a prominent Thomistic scholar, as first Prefect. The academy was founded with thirty members: ten from Rome, ten from the rest of Italy, and ten from other countries. Pope Paul VI ( la, Paulus VI; it, Paolo VI; born Giovanni Battista Enrico Antonio Maria Montini, ; 26 September 18976 August 1978) was head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of the Vatican City, Vatican City State from 21 June 1963 to his death in August 1978. The Pontifical Academy of Theology ( it, Pontificia Accademia di Teologia) is a learned society founded in 1718, and is a Pontifical Academy. It is situated at Via della Conciliazione, Vatican City, Rome. History The Pontifical Academy of Theology was founded by Clement XI in 1718, and fostered by Benedict XIII, Clement XIV, and then by Gregory XVI who on 26 October 1838 approved statutes for it. On 28 January 1999 Pope John Paul II approved a revised set of statutes for this academy, writing that "The principal mission of theology today consists in promoting dialogue between Revelation and the doctrine of the faith, and in offering an ever deeper understanding of it." ''Praedicate evangelium'' (''Preach the gospel'') is an apostolic constitution reforming the Roman Curia and was published and promulgated on 19 March 2022 by Pope Francis; the document took effect on 5 June 2022. It has fully abrogated and replaced Pope John Paul II's '' Pastor bonus'' of 1988. Preparation The reform of the Roman Curia had been requested by the cardinals at the meetings held before the 2013 conclave. Immediately after becoming pope, Francis started working on the reform.
