Dibamus Bogadeki
''Dibamus bogadeki'', or Bogadek's burrowing lizard (Chinese: 鮑氏雙足蜥), is a species of legless lizard in the family Dibamidae. The species is endemic to Hong Kong. Etymology ''D. bogadeki'' is named after its first collector, Father Anthony Bogadek, a herpetologist and teacher at the St Louis School in Hong Kong, and a coauthor of the first major guide to Hong Kong Amphibians and Reptiles. Distribution and ecology The species ''D. bogadeki'' can only be found on Hei Ling Chau, Shek Kwu Chau and Sunshine Island in Hong Kong. It was discovered in 1987 on the island of Hei Ling Chau, the species is also the only legless lizard that can be found in Hong Kong. It lives in soil or under stones or rotting wood lying on the forest floor. The first live specimen was discovered hiding under a mass of dead leaves and soil in a drain beside woodland. Ilya Sergeyevich Darevsky (russian: Илья Сергеевич Даревский, 18 December 1924 – 8 August 2009) was a Soviet Russian zoologist-herpetologist and a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. During his career he described 34 species of amphibians and reptiles. '' Darevskia'', a genus of Caucasian rock lizards, is named after him. Early life and military career Darevsky was born on 18 December 1924 in Kiev. He was interested in amphibians and reptiles since his childhood, when he met Sergey A. Chernov, a herpetologist from Leningrad. Oviparous animals are animals that lay their eggs, with little or no other embryonic development within the mother. Sunshine Island, Hong Kong
Sunshine Island (), also known as Chau Kung To () indigenously, is a companion island of Hei Ling Chau in Hong Kong. Located northeast of Hei Ling Chau and south of Peng Chau, the island was once the site of a drug addiction treatment centre. The island features scenic rocks and some abandoned buildings. Shek Kwu Chau
Shek Kwu Chau is an island of Hong Kong, located south of Lantau Island and between Cheung Chau and the Soko Islands. Administratively, it is part of Islands District. Shek Kwu Chau is a restricted area and a permit is required to visit the island. History An old name for the island was "Coffin Island". Hei Ling Chau, formerly Hayling Chau, is an island of Hong Kong, located east of Silver Mine Bay and Chi Ma Wan of Lantau Island. Administratively, it is part of the Islands District.
