Diane McLean
Diane Gail Gushulak ( McLean; born May 27, 1969) is a Canadian curler from Vancouver, British Columbia. She currently skips her own team out of Vernon. Career Early career in Ontario Gushulak's early curling career was spent in Ontario. In 1990 she won a provincial varsity championship while attending McMaster University. In 1995 she won the Ontario Scott Tournament of Hearts throwing second stones for the Alison Goring rink. The team represented Ontario at the 1995 Scott Tournament of Hearts, where they finished in fifth place with a 7-4 record. Career in British Columbia Gushulak later moved to B.C. At her first B.C. provincial championship she placed 2nd, in 1997. She finished third in 2000. Playing second for the Sherry Fraser rink, she played in the 2001 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials, finishing with a 2-7 record. The 2009 Scotties Tournament of Hearts, the Canadian women's national curling championship, was held from February 21 to March 1 at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre in Victoria, British Columbia. The Grand Slam of Curling (branded as the Pinty's Grand Slam of Curling for sponsorship reasons) is a series of curling bonspiels that are a part of the annual World Curling Tour. Grand Slam events offer a purse of at least CAD$100,000, and feature the best teams from across Canada and around the World. The Grand Slam was instituted during the 2001–02 season for men and 2006–07 for women (with the 2006 Players' Championship also considered a Slam), but some of the Grand Slam events have longer histories as bonspiels. The Grand Slam season consists of six men's and women's events. The original four events (Masters, Open, National, and Players' Championship) are considered to be "majors". The World Curling Tour (WCT) is a group of curling bonspiels featuring the best male, female, and mixed doubles curlers in the world. History The World Curling Tour was founded by former World Champion Ed Lukowich, with later assistance from John Kawaja. The World Curling Tour commenced in 1992, with men's events only at first. It replaced the "Canadian Curling Tour" held the previous season. The first season consisted of 48 events (with only one outside Canada), and was sponsored by Seagram's distillery. Teams earned points in every event with the top 30 qualifying for the season ending " V.O. Cup", today known as the Players' Championship. Its first president and CEO was Lukowich. Marla Mallett
Marla Mallett (born December 19, 1970 as Marla Geiger in Nanaimo, British Columbia) is a Canadian curler from Walnut Grove, British Columbia. Career 1988–1997 Mallett is a three time former Canadian and World Junior champion in 1988 playing with for Julie Sutton (Skinner). In 1995 Mallett played in her first Tournament of Hearts. She played skip for the British Columbia team, and finished the round robin with a 6–5 record. She would then join up with Kelley Owen (Law), and played in the 1997 Scott Tournament of Hearts. The team finished in last place, with a 3–8 record that year. 2009–current Mallett would not return to the Hearts until the 2009 event, held in her home province. Her team consisting of Grace MacInnes, Diane Gushulak and Jacalyn Brown, defied many people's expectations by finishing the round robin in first place with an 8–3 record and lost in the final to the defending champion Jennifer Jones. The 2004 Scott Tournament of Hearts was held at the ENMAX Centrium in Red Deer, Alberta from February 21 to 29 2004. The defending champion, Colleen Jones won the right to represent "Canada" and she would go on to win her fourth straight championship.
