Devil's Tower Camp
Devil's Tower Camp is a military installation located just south-east of Gibraltar International Airport on the isthmus between Spain and Gibraltar. History The site dates back to 1713 when Spain ceded land to the United Kingdom under the Treaty of Utrecht. The camp was established in 1942 as an RAF barracks to support RAF Gibraltar during the World War II, Second World War and was located conveniently close to the airfield. The facilities, which were increasingly used by the British Army after the War, became the home of the Royal Gibraltar Regiment. They were expanded and refurbished to provide a new catering complex and single living accommodation for some 450 troops in 2009. The new facilities also included the ''Princess Royal Medical Centre'', established to provide medical facilities for military personnel, which was opened by the Anne, Princess Royal, Princess Royal during that year. Devil's Tower Road
Devil's Tower Road is a road in the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar. The road, in the northeastern part of the settlement, runs south of Gibraltar International Airport, from Winston Churchill Avenue, Gibraltar, Winston Churchill Avenue southeast to Eastern Beach Road. It was named after Devil's Tower (Gibraltar), Devil's Tower, a seventeenth-century watchtower that was formerly at the eastern end of the road. By 2011, Devil's Tower Road had been changed to a dual carriageway, with on-street parking eliminated, and the Government's plan to change the name of the road to North Front Avenue met with community opposition. A new access road was planned, such that Winston Churchill Avenue, which crosses the runway, would no longer serve as the main road to the Gibraltar-Spain border. the project has yet to be completed. Treaty Of Utrecht
The Peace of Utrecht was a series of peace treaties signed by the belligerents in the War of the Spanish Succession, in the Dutch city of Utrecht between April 1713 and February 1715. The war involved three contenders for the vacant throne of Spain, and involved much of Europe for over a decade. The main action saw France as the defender of Spain against a multinational coalition. The war was very expensive and bloody and finally stalemated. Essentially, the treaties allowed Philip V (grandson of King Louis XIV of France) to keep the Spanish throne in return for permanently renouncing his claim to the French throne, along with other necessary guarantees that would ensure that France and Spain should not merge, thus preserving the balance of power in Europe. 2020–21 Gibraltar Women's Football League
The 2020–21 Gibraltar Women's Football League is the fifth season of 11-a-side women's football in Gibraltar since the territory joined UEFA in 2013, and FIFA in 2016. The league had been in operation for a number of years previously, but teams were ineligible for entry to the UEFA Women's Champions League as it was only a 9-a-side tournament. Lincoln Red Imps Women were the reigning champions, but disbanded their women's team in summer 2020. After only two games, the league paused on 15 December 2020, before resuming on 25 May 2021. While the first two games of the season were played at Victoria Stadium, resurfacing at the ground meant that the restarted league was played on pitch at the Devil's Tower Camp, with permission from Gibraltar's Ministry of Defence.
