Deuchar is a rural locality in the Southern Downs Region, Queensland, Australia. In the Deuchar had a population of 295 people. Geography The Southern railway enters the suburb from the north (Hendon) and exits to the south ( Massie). The Warwick Allora Road also enters the locality from the north (Hendon, but to the east of the railway) and exits to the south (Massie, adjacent to the railway). The land use is a mix of grazing on native vegetation and crop growing. The crops are mostly grown in the east of the locality. History The locality is named after pioneer stock breeder John Deuchar who leased the Canal Creek pastoral run, managed the Rosenthal run, and was co-owner of Glengallan run from 1855 to 1870. Deuchar Provisional School opened on 14 March 1904. On 1 January 1909 it became Deuchar State School. It was closed in 1921 due to low student number, but reopened in 1924. The Southern Downs Region is a local government area in the Darling Downs region of Queensland, Australia, along the state's boundary with New South Wales. It was created in 2008 from a merger of the Shire of Warwick and the Shire of Stanthorpe. It has an estimated operating budget of A$22.8 million. Southern Railway Line
The Southern railway line serves the Darling Downs region of Queensland, Australia. The long line branches from the Western line at Toowoomba, west of Brisbane, and proceeds south through Warwick and Stanthorpe to the New South Wales/Queensland state border at Wallangarra. History The first section of the Southern railway opened from the end of the Main Line railway at Toowoomba to Millhill to the north of Warwick, on 9 January 1871, the line terminating there to save the cost of a bridge over the Condamine River. In 1872, tin was discovered at Stanthorpe, but disagreement over the route to be taken through Warwick resulted in the approval to extend the line not being given until 1877. Glengallan Homestead is a heritage-listed homestead on the New England Highway, Glengallan, Southern Downs Region, Queensland, Australia. It was built from 1864 to 1904.
