Desmond Barrit
Desmond Barrit is a Welsh actor, best known for his stage work. Biography An early screen role for Barrit came in ''Alice through the Looking Glass'' (1998), in which he played Humpty Dumpty. In 2003, he played Shylock in the Chichester Festival Theatre's production of Shakespeare's ''The Merchant of Venice'', while in 2007 he appeared in ''The History Boys'' at Wyndham's Theatre portraying the general studies teacher, Hector, made famous by Richard Griffiths in the film version. In 2004, in a limited-run revival of '' A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum'' at the Royal National Theatre Barrit played Pseudolus opposite Philip Quast as Miles Gloriosus, Hamish McColl as Hysterium and Isla Blair as Domina (who had previously played Philia in the 1963 production). Alice Through The Looking Glass (1998 Film)
''Alice through the Looking Glass'' is a 1998 British fantasy television film, based on Lewis Carroll's 1871 book ''Through the Looking-Glass'', and starring Kate Beckinsale. The film was released on DVD in 2005. Plot The film opens with a mother (Kate Beckinsale) reading ''Through the Looking Glass'' to her daughter Alice (Charlotte Curley). The mother then finds herself travelling through the bedroom mirror into Looking-Glass Land and becoming Alice, but remains an adult. Alice finds a book containing "Jabberwocky", in mirror writing, and sees chess pieces coming to life. She goes out into a garden with talking flowers. There, she meets the Red Queen from the chess board (Sian Phillips), who shows her that the landscape is laid out like a gigantic chessboard. Theatre Royal, Bath
The Theatre Royal in Bath, England, was built in 1805. A Grade II* listed building, it has been described by the Theatres Trust as "One of the most important surviving examples of Georgian theatre architecture". It has a capacity for an audience of around 900. The Theatre Royal was built to replace the Old Orchard Street Theatre, funded by a Tontine and elaborately decorated. The architect was George Dance the Younger, with John Palmer carrying out much of the work. It opened with a performance of Shakespeare's Richard III and hosted performances by many leading actors of the time including Dorothea Jordan, William Macready and Edmund Kean. A major fire in 1862 destroyed the interior of the building and was quickly followed by a rebuilding programme by Charles J. Phipps, which included the construction of the current entrance. Helen Edmundson (born 1964) is a British playwright, screenwriter and producer. She has won awards and critical acclaim both for her original writing and for her adaptations of various literary classics for the stage and screen. Early life Edmundson was born in Liverpool, in 1964. Most of her childhood was spent on the Wirral and in Chester. Edmundson studied drama at Manchester University. After her studies, Edmundson acted with Red Stockings, a female agit-prop company, for whom she wrote the musical comedy ''Ladies in the Lift'' in 1988.
