Deryk Osthus
Deryk Osthus is the Professor of Graph Theory at the School of Mathematics, University of Birmingham. He is known for his research in combinatorics, predominantly in extremal and probabilistic graph theory. Career Osthus earned a B.A. in mathematics from Cambridge University in 1996, followed by the Certificate of Advanced Studies in Mathematics (Part III) from Cambridge in 1997. He earned a PhD in theoretical computer science from Humboldt University of Berlin in 2000. From 2000 until 2004, he was a postdoctoral researcher in Berlin. He joined Birmingham University in 2004 as a lecturer. Working at the Birmingham University from 2004 to a 2010 as lecturer, Deryk was a promoted in 2010 to a senior lecturer. From 2011 to 2012, he was a reader in graph theory. He was appointed Professor in Graph Theory in 2012. Whitehead Prize
The Whitehead Prize is awarded yearly by the London Mathematical Society to multiple mathematicians working in the United Kingdom who are at an early stage of their career. The prize is named in memory of homotopy theory pioneer J. H. C. Whitehead. More specifically, people being considered for the award must be resident in the United Kingdom on 1 January of the award year or must have been educated in the United Kingdom. Also, the candidates must have less than 15 years of work at the postdoctorate level and must not have received any other prizes from the Society. Cambridge Mathematical Tripos
The Mathematical Tripos is the mathematics course that is taught in the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge. It is the oldest Tripos examined at the University. Origin In its classical nineteenth-century form, the tripos was a distinctive written examination of undergraduate students of the University of Cambridge. Prior to 1824, the Mathematical Tripos was formally known as the "Senate House Examination". From about 1780 to 1909, the "Old Tripos" was distinguished by a number of features, including the publication of an order of merit of successful candidates, and the difficulty of the mathematical problems set for solution. The London Mathematical Society (LMS) is one of the United Kingdom's learned societies for mathematics (the others being the Royal Statistical Society (RSS), the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA), the Edinburgh Mathematical Society and the Operational Research Society (ORS).
