Dernbach (Westerwald)
Dernbach (Westerwald) is a local community (Ortsgemeinde) in the district of Westerwaldkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, and part of the municipal association Verbandsgemeinde Wirges. The village is known throughout the country by the three-way interchange A48/A3, called ''Dernbacher Dreieck'', and well known worldwide by the international congregation Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ, called ''Dernbacher Schwestern''. Etymology Unlike many other surrounding villages, Dernbach has not a Franconian, but a Celtic toponym. Several communities and families have the same name, so it has become customary to say "Dernbach bei Montabaur", to avoid confusion. Geography Location Dernbach is located north of the city of Montabaur within the wooded hills of the national nature reserve "Naturpark Nassau". Bad Endbach is the westernmost municipality in Marburg-Biedenkopf district of the state of Hesse in Germany, and borders on the Lahn-Dill district. Elbbach
Elbbach is a river in Germany, about long. It is a right tributary of the Lahn which in turn is a right tributary of the Rhine. The Elbbach starts near Westerburg in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, and flows into the Lahn near Limburg an der Lahn in the state of Hesse. The drainage basin of this river has an area of . History In the nineteenth century, many mills used the water power of the Elbbach. They included grain mills, an ironworks in Berzhahn and also an oil mill in Niederhadamar. In the twentieth century, the economic importance of this river greatly diminished. However, many micro hydro plants are now running on the Elbbach, especially around Hadamar. Some of them are at the sites of the old mills. There are many bridges across this river, some of them extremely old. These include the Saint Wendilin Bridge in Niederhadamar, built in the 12th century, which is one of Germany’s medieval bridges and may be the oldest in the state of Hesse. Etymology The fi ... Jade Winston Dernbach (born 3 March 1986) is a former professional cricketer. He represented Surrey (2003–2021), England (2011–2014) and Italy (2021). He made his first-class debut in 2003 and won the NBC Denis Compton Award in 2004 and 2009. In 2021, Dernbach qualified to represent the Italy national cricket team. Born in South Africa and initially schooled at St John's College, Johannesburg, he moved to England at the age of 14 and gained British citizenship, making him eligible for the England cricket team. Balthasar von Dernbach (1548 – 15 March 1606), was a Benedictine monk of Fulda monastery and its Prince-Abbot from 1570 to 1606. Family Balthasar was born into a branch (''called Graul'') of the ''von Dernbach'' family, a family of knights traceable to the 13th century in the vicinity of Giessen and Herborn as liegemen of the List of rulers of Hesse, landgraves of Hesse. Born in 1548 in Wiesenfeld, Hesse, Balthasar was the youngest son of the fifteen children of Peter von Dernbach and his wife, Clara Klauer von und zu Wohra.
