Derk Holman
Derk Holman (August 14, 1916, in Buitenpost – February 27, 1982, in Groningen) was a Dutch sculptor and ceramist. Life and work Holman was the son of an architect. He received his training at the Minerva Academy in Groningen from 1934 to 1937. During his training he was primarily engaged in sculpture and painting, and later experimented with pottery. Holman lived and worked in Grootegast, and sold most of his products himself traveling on his ship through the Netherlands. Holman made a number of sculptures and wall sculptures of resin stone, that were placed in the public space. Holman often made use of earthy tones and knew his work to provide smooth surfaces with crystal glaze. Buitenpost
Buitenpost (''Bûtenpost'' in West Frisian) is a village in north-east Friesland in the Netherlands. It lies approximately halfway between the cities of Leeuwarden (the capital of Friesland) and Groningen, in the northern part of the municipality of Achtkarspelen. With 5,762 inhabitants, Buitenpost is the second largest settlement in the municipality. Buitenpost is home to the Netherlands' largest botanical herbal garden. History The village was first mentioned in 1388 as Post, and means outside bridge. Buiten (outside) was added to distinguish from the hamlet of . Buitenpost is a road village which developed along the main road from Leeuwarden to Groningen, and became the capital of the ''grietenij'' (predecessor of a municipality) Achtkarspelen. The tower of the Protestant church was constructed around 1200 and enlarged in the 16th century. Minerva Academy FC (often referred to as Minerva Punjab) is an Indian professional multi-sports club based in Mohali, Punjab (India), Punjab, best known for its association football, football and cricket academies, and futsal team. Grootegast
Grootegast (; fy, Gruttegast) is a village and former municipality in the northeastern Netherlands. It is the sister city of Kingston, Tasmania. The municipality was merged into the municipality of Westerkwartier on 1 January 2019. Geography The former municipality contained the population centres: Doezum, Enumatil, Faan, Grootegast, Kornhorn, Lutjegast, Niekerk, Oldekerk, Opende, Sebaldeburen. In some of these villages they still speak the West Frisian language. The village of Grootegast Grootegast was the main village of the former municipality. Keramiekmuseum Princessehof
The Princessehof Ceramics Museum (in Dutch: Keramiekmuseum Princessehof) is a museum of ceramics in the city of Leeuwarden in the Netherlands. The museum's name comes from one of two buildings in which it is housed: a small palace ( means ‘royal court’) built in 1693 and later occupied by Marie Louise, dowager Princess of Orange. The other annexed building is the Papinga stins, a former stronghold from the 15th century. The museum buildings are of interest, and so are its collection of tiles, pottery, and ceramic sculpture. History of the building In 1731, the building was purchased by Marie Louise (known in Leeuwarden as ''Marijke Meu'', 'Aunt Mary'), who had been a widow since 1711 and acted as regent for her son William IV up to that year, when he came of age. She moved in and began a collection of ceramics, and her collection forms part of the museum's collection, most notably in the Nassaukamer, a period dining room in Baroque style.
