Derek Savage is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played at senior level for the Galway county team. He plays his club football with his local club Cortoon Shamrocks and was a member of the Galway senior team from 1998 to 2008. He is married to Caitriona since 2006. Cortoon Shamrocks GAA
Cortoon Shamrocks (Irish: ) is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in County Galway, Ireland. The club is a member of the Galway GAA. Galway league and championships and they compete at all levels of Galway football. Cortoon Shamrocks are a Gaelic football club History Cortoon are one of the oldest clubs in the county, and are unique in that they are the second senior football team in the one parish in Galway. Cortoon is a half parish of Tuam and with Tuam Stars , Cortoon success has been hard come by. They achieved Senior status in the early seventies in a team powered by Tommy Joe Gilmore and Mickey Rooney, they managed to reach the semi final on two occasions, losing to Caltra and Milltown. Galway County Football Team
The Galway county football team ( ) represents Galway in men's Gaelic football and is governed by Galway GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. The team competes in the three major annual inter-county competitions; the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, the Connacht Senior Football Championship and the National Football League. Galway's home ground is Pearse Stadium, Salthill. The team's manager is Pádraic Joyce. Galway was the first Connacht county to win an All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC), but the second to appear in the final, following Mayo. Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar , signalled by the umpire raising a white flag.
