Derek Miller (Canadian Musician)
Derek Miller (born 29 October 1974) is an Aboriginal Canadian singer-songwriter. He has received two Juno Awards. He performed at the Closing Ceremonies of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics with Eva Avila and Nikki Yanofsky. History Miller was born in the community of the Six Nations of the Grand River First Nation, Ontario, Canada. Miller became interested in music in his teens and by the late 1990s began touring with Buffy Sainte-Marie. In 2002, Miller released his debut album ''Music is the Medicine'' on Winnipeg's Arbor Records. He received a 2003 Juno Award in the category Aboriginal Recording of the Year for "Lovesick Blues" from his album ''Music is the Medicine''. In 2006, Miller released his second album ''The Dirty Looks''. Miller was honoured with a 2007 Canadian Aboriginal Music Award, in the category Best Rock Album, for his ''The Dirty Looks'' album. Six Nations Of The Grand River
Six Nations (or Six Nations of the Grand River, french: Réserve des Six Nations, see, Ye:i’ Níónöëdzage:h) is demographically the largest First Nations reserve in Canada. As of the end of 2017, it has a total of 27,276 members, 12,848 of whom live on the reserve. It is the only reserve in North America that has representatives of all six Haudenosaunee nations living together. These nations are the Mohawk, Cayuga, Onondaga, Oneida, Seneca and Tuscarora. Some Lenape (formerly known as Delaware) also live in the territory. The Six Nations reserve is bordered by the County of Brant, Norfolk County, and Haldimand County, with a subsection reservation, the New Credit Reserve, located within its boundaries. Wawatay Native Communications Society
Wawatay Native Communications Society (Wawatay for short) was formed in 1974 by the people of Canada's Nishnawbe Aski Nation in the Kenora and Cochrane Districts of Northern Ontario, as a source of communications technology, namely radio, television, and print media services for the Oji-Cree communities. Its mandate is to preserve the indigenous language and culture in its service area. Wawatay's general office is located in Sioux Lookout, Ontario, with bureaus in Timmins and Thunder Bay. Wawatay's mission statement says that they are "... dedicated to using appropriate technologies to meet the communication needs of people of Aboriginal ancestry in Northern Ontario, wherever they live."
