Derbyshire County Cricket Club In 1983
Derbyshire County Cricket Club in 1983 was the cricket season when the English club Derbyshire had been playing for one hundred and twelve years. In the County Championship, they won seven matches to finish ninth in their seventy ninth season in the Championship. They came sixth in the John Player Special League. They did not progress from the group in the Benson & Hedges Cup and reached round two in the National Westminster Bank Trophy. 1983 season Derbyshire played twenty four first class matches, which were all in the County Championship. They won seven matches and lost five in both the championship and in the Sunday league. They lost to Middlesex in the second round of the NWB Trophy and lost the only two matches which were completed in the Benson and Hedges Cup. This is a list of seasons played by Derbyshire County Cricket Club in English cricket, from the club's formation in 1870. Early years 1871–1887 Derbyshire played their first matches in 1871. For the first three years their only opponents were Lancashire. When Kent joined in 1874, by a quirk of scoring which was based on games lost, they were County Champion. The club was bedevilled by financial problems, and in 1888 the sporting press decided no longer to accord them first class status. Wilderness years 1888–1893 From 1888 Derbyshire's matches were not accorded first class status. Iain Anderson (cricketer)
Iain Stuart Anderson (born 24 April 1960) is a former English cricketer who played for Derbyshire from 1978 to 1987 and for Boland, South Africa, in 1983/84. A Derby native, Anderson accrued three Youth Test match appearances between 1978 and 1979, as an opening batsman, and one Youth ODI appearance, against Australia in the winter of 1979. Kent County Cricket Club
Kent County Cricket Club is one of the eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Kent. A club representing the county was first founded in 1842 but Kent teams have played top-class cricket since the early 18th century, and the club has always held first-class status. Northamptonshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Northamptonshire. Its limited overs team is called the Northants Steelbacks – a reference to the Northamptonshire Regiment which was formed in 1881. The name was supposedly a tribute to the soldiers' apparent indifference to the harsh discipline imposed by their officers. Roger Finney
Roger John Finney (born 2 August 1960) is a former English cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman and a left-arm medium-pace swing bowler. Finney first played for the Derbyshire Second XI in 1978, when he represented them for the first time in the Second XI Championship. He played Second XI and Under-25 cricket for the next four years before breaking into Derbyshire's senior team. He made his first appearance as a lower-middle-order batsman in 1982, and played in the County Championship consistently until 1988, when through injury he suffered a decline in his bowling form and found himself out of the first XI. He continued for a season in the second team, until in 1989 the injury forced his retirement from the first-class game. Warwickshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Warwickshire. Alan Hill (cricketer)
Alan Hill (born 29 June 1950) is a former English cricketer and umpire who played for Derbyshire from 1972 to 1986 and for Orange Free State in South Africa in 1976/77. Hill was born in Buxworth, Derbyshire and began playing for Derbyshire Juniors in 1965. He progressed to the Second XI by 1970 and in 1972 made his first-class debut against Somerset. He was a right-handed batsman, who usually opened for Derbyshire, and an occasional off-break bowler. In first-class cricket, he hit 65 fifties and 18 hundreds, giving him a career average of 30.89. His occasional off-break bowling took only a modest 9 wickets. Hill is one of only two cricketers to make a century without hitting a boundary, a record that he shares with Paul Hibbert, making 103 in the match for Orange Free State v Griqualand West in 1976–77. Dallas Moir
Dallas Moir (born 13 April 1957) is a Maltese-born Scottish former cricketer who played first-class cricket for Scotland in 1980 and 1986 and for Derbyshire between 1981 and 1985. Moir played for Scotland B in 1978 and in 1980 played several games for Scotland including a first-class match against Ireland and one-day events. Also in 1980 he made his Second XI debut for Warwickshire. He joined Derbyshire in the 1981 season playing mainly in the second XI, but played three first-class matches. In the 1982 season, Moir played regularly for Derbyshire first team, where he stayed for three years. His sole century innings came against Warwickshire in July 1984. He finished playing for Derbyshire at the end of 1985 but represented Scotland again in 1986, his first-class match being in an innings victory against Ireland.
