Derbyshire County Cricket Club in 1964 was the cricket season when the English club Derbyshire had been playing for ninety three years. It was their sixtieth season in the County Championship and they won five matches to finish twelfth in the County Championship. In the second year of the Gillette Cup they were eliminated in round 1. 1964 season Derbyshire played 28 games in the County Championship, one match against Oxford University, and one against the touring Australians. They won five first class matches altogether and lost in the initial round of the Gillette Cup. Charles Lee was in his second season as captain. Derek Morgan was top scorer and Brian Jackson took most wickets. Players who made their debut for Derbyshire were Michael Page who went on to play a further eleven seasons for the club, and Michael Allen who joined the club from Northamptonshire and played for three seasons. This is a list of seasons played by Derbyshire County Cricket Club in English cricket, from the club's formation in 1870. Early years 1871–1887 Derbyshire played their first matches in 1871. For the first three years their only opponents were Lancashire. When Kent joined in 1874, by a quirk of scoring which was based on games lost, they were County Champion. The club was bedevilled by financial problems, and in 1888 the sporting press decided no longer to accord them first class status. Wilderness years 1888–1893 From 1888 Derbyshire's matches were not accorded first class status. Northamptonshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Northamptonshire. Its limited overs team is called the Northants Steelbacks – a reference to the Northamptonshire Regiment which was formed in 1881. The name was supposedly a tribute to the soldiers' apparent indifference to the harsh discipline imposed by their officers. Warwickshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Warwickshire. Its T20 team is called the Birmingham Bears. Founded in 1882, the club held minor status until it was elevated to first-class in 1894 pending its entry into the County Championship in 1895. Surrey County Cricket Club (Surrey CCC) is a first-class club in county cricket, one of eighteen in the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Surrey, including areas that now form South London. Teams representing the county are recorded from 1709 onwards; the current club was founded in 1845 and has held first-class status continuously since then. Lancashire County Cricket Club represents the historic county of Lancashire in English cricket. The club has held first-class status since it was founded in 1864. Lancashire's home is Old Trafford Cricket Ground, although the team also play matches at other grounds around the county. William Oates (cricketer, Born 1929)
William Farrand Oates (11 June 1929 – 15 May 2001) was an English first-class cricketer, who played for Yorkshire in 1956, and for Derbyshire from 1959 to 1965. Life Oates was born in Aston, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England. He played his early cricket with the local Aston Hall club, where his father was president as well being President of the Sheffield League. Oates also played with Sheffield United and headed the Yorkshire 2nd XI averages in 1956. Oates played three matches for Yorkshire in 1956, including one against the touring Australians, but failed to cement a first team place. Oates moved to Derbyshire in the 1959 season where he played five matches in the season. In the 1960 season he played seven matches with no significant performances. In the 1961 season he scored over 1200 runs and made his best score of 148 not out against Sussex. In the 1962 season he made 1100 runs and scored 101 against Somerset. Oxford University Cricket Club (OUCC), which represents the University of Oxford, has always held first-class status since 1827 when it made its debut in the inaugural University Match between OUCC and Cambridge University Cricket Club (CUCC). It was classified as a List A team in 1973 only. Home fixtures are played at the University Parks slightly northeast of Oxford city centre. Middlesex County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Middlesex which has effectively been subsumed within the ceremonial county of Greater London. Laurie Johnson (cricketer)
Hubert Laurence Johnson (8 November 1927 – 4 February 2020) was a Barbados-born cricketer who played first-class cricket for Derbyshire between 1949 and 1966, scoring more than 14,000 runs. Life and career Johnson was born at Pine Hill, St Michael, Barbados. He was educated at The Lodge School, well known as the cradle of cricket in Barbados, where he benefited from the coaching of Leslie Arthur "Bessie" Walcott. Johnson was invited to the BCA trials in 1945 and in 1946 he was part of the Barbados team to Trinidad, but did not play. However, he scored centuries against Combermere, Spartan and Wanderers, and then migrated to England to train as a sugar industry engineer. Johnson played for the Swarkestone Cricket Club, and appeared for Derbyshire in 2nd XI matches in 1947 and 1948.
