Derbyshire County Cricket Club in 1962 was the cricket season when the English club Derbyshire had been playing for ninety-one years. It was their fifty-eighth season in the County Championship and they won 9 championship matches and lost six to finish seventh in the County Championship. 1962 season Derbyshire played 28 games in the County Championship, one match against the touring Pakistinis and one match against Oxford University. Derbyshire County Cricket Club Seasons
This is a list of seasons played by Derbyshire County Cricket Club in English cricket, from the club's formation in 1870. Early years 1871–1887 Derbyshire played their first matches in 1871. For the first three years their only opponents were Lancashire. When Kent joined in 1874, by a quirk of scoring which was based on games lost, they were County Champion. The club was bedevilled by financial problems, and in 1888 the sporting press decided no longer to accord them first class status. Wilderness years 1888–1893 From 1888 Derbyshire's matches were not accorded first class status. However the club continued to play first class counties and most of the players carried on with the club. Gloucestershire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Gloucestershire. Founded in 1870, Gloucestershire have always been first-class and have played in every top-level domestic cricket competition in England. The club played its first senior match in 1870 and W. G. Grace was their captain. The club plays home games at the Bristol County Ground in the Bishopston area of north Bristol. A number of games are also played at the Cheltenham Cricket Festival at the College Ground, Cheltenham and matches have also been played at the Gloucester cricket festival at The King's School, Gloucester. Northamptonshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Northamptonshire. Its limited overs team is called the Northants Steelbacks – a reference to the Northamptonshire Regiment which was formed in 1881. The name was supposedly a tribute to the soldiers' apparent indifference to the harsh discipline imposed by their officers. Founded in 1878, Northamptonshire (Northants) held minor status at first but was a prominent member of the early Minor Counties Championship during the 1890s. Hampshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Hampshire. Hampshire teams formed by earlier organisations, principally the Hambledon Club, always had first-class status and the same applied to the county club when it was founded in 1863. Because of poor performances for several seasons until 1885, Hampshire then lost its status for nine seasons until it was invited into the County Championship in 1895, since when the team have played in every top-level domestic cricket competition in England. Hampshire originally played at the Antelope Ground, Southampton until 1885 when they relocated to the County Ground, Southampton until 2000, before moving to the purpose-built Rose Bowl in West End, which is in the Borough of Eastleigh. Edwin Smith (cricketer, Born 1934)
Edwin Smith (born 2 January 1934) is a former county cricketer who played for Derbyshire between 1951 and 1971 and took over 1200 wickets. Smith was born in Grassmoor, Derbyshire. He played his entire first-class career for Derbyshire, playing 503 First Class matches in a career spanning 20 years from 1951 to 1971. Smith was primarily an off-spin bowler and took 1217 first-class wickets at an average of 25.84, with 51 5 wicket innings and a best performance of 9 for 46. He was also a useful lower middle order batsman and scored nearly 7000 runs with a highest score of 90. Glamorgan County Cricket Club ( cy, Criced Morgannwg) is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Glamorgan ( cy, Morgannwg). Founded in 1888, Glamorgan held minor status at first and was a prominent member of the early Minor Counties Championship before the First World War. In 1921, the club joined the County Championship and the team was elevated to first-class status, subsequently playing in every top-level domestic cricket competition in England and Wales. Leicestershire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Leicestershire. It has also been representative of the county of Rutland. The club's limited overs team is called the Leicestershire Foxes. William Oates (cricketer, Born 1929)
William Farrand Oates (11 June 1929 – 15 May 2001) was an English first-class cricketer, who played for Yorkshire in 1956, and for Derbyshire from 1959 to 1965. Life Oates was born in Aston, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England. He played his early cricket with the local Aston Hall club, where his father was president as well being President of the Sheffield League. Oates also played with Sheffield United and headed the Yorkshire 2nd XI averages in 1956. Oates played three matches for Yorkshire in 1956, including one against the touring Australians, but failed to cement a first team place. Oates moved to Derbyshire in the 1959 season where he played five matches in the season. In the 1960 season he played seven matches with no significant performances. Derek Morgan (cricketer)
Derek Clifton Morgan (26 February 1929 – 4 November 2017) was an English cricketer who played for Derbyshire County Cricket Club between 1950 and 1969, captaining the side between 1965 and 1969. An all-rounder, he is the only Derbyshire cricketer besides Leslie Townsend to have achieved the double of 10,000 runs and 1,000 wickets. Morgan was born in Muswell Hill, London. He made his first-class debut for Derbyshire in the 1950 season against Northamptonshire in May, when he took two wickets in the first innings and was not out in his only batting innings. He played occasionally for the second XI but was soon established as a first team regular. In the 1951 season he took 6 for 93 against Gloucestershire. He made his first century of 109 not out against Kent in the 1955 season. In the 1960 season he took 7 wickets for 38 against Yorkshire. Harold Rhodes (cricketer)
Harold James Rhodes (born 22 July 1936) is an English former international cricketer who played two Test matches for England in 1959. He played domestically for Derbyshire between 1953 and 1975 and played one day matches for Nottinghamshire between 1970 and 1973. Life and career Rhodes was born at Hadfield, Derbyshire, the son of the Derbyshire all-rounder, Albert "Dusty" Rhodes. He made his first appearance for Derbyshire Club and Ground in 1951 and played one match for the Derbyshire second eleven in 1952. He made his first-class debut for Derbyshire in the 1953 season when he played a single match against Oxford University, but began appearing regularly in the second eleven.
