Derby City Rovers were an American semi-professional soccer team based in Louisville, Kentucky, United States. Derby City was also known for their elite-level youth teams that played in local, state, regional and national leagues. Founded in 2010 as the ''River City Rovers'', the team played in USL League Two, the fourth tier of the American Soccer Pyramid. The team played its home games at the King Louie's Sports Complex located in Louisville. The team's colors were blue, white and gold. History River City Rovers was announced as a USL Premier Development League expansion franchise on November 18, 2010. They played their first competitive game on May 19, 2011, a 0–0 tie with fellow expansion team Akron Summit Assault. In May 2014, the club became the Derby City Rovers. Derby City Rovers PDL and Youth Academy ceased operations in July 2018 and there are no plans to return to the pitch. USL League Two (USL2), formerly the Premier Development League (PDL), is a semi-professional developmental soccer league sponsored by United Soccer Leagues in the United States and Canada, forming part of the United States soccer league system. The league features 113 teams for 2022, split into sixteen regional divisions across four conferences. USL League Two is headquartered in Tampa, Florida. Ventura County Fusion are the current champions, having defeated Long Island Rough Riders 2–1 in the 2022 USL League Two Championship game on August 6, 2022. Richard Ballard (born January 26, 1994) is an American soccer player who plays as a forward for One Knoxville SC in USL League One. Early life Personal Ballard was born in Louisville, Kentucky to John and Debi Ballard, and attended high school at duPont Manual High School. While at Manual he played three years of varsity soccer. As a senior he scored 21 goals with 24 assists while leading Manual to the district 12 title and be named to both the All-District and All-State First teams. College and youth Ballard played four years of college soccer at Indiana University between 2012 and 2016, including a red-shirted year in 2013. During his freshman year Ballard appeared in 13 matches, starting four, and was named to the Big Ten Conference All Freshman team.
