Brooks Thompson (born May 28, 2002) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a goalkeeper for Hartford Athletic in the USL Championship. Club career Born in Jefferson, Indiana, Thompson was raised in Floyds Knobs. In 2016, Thompson joined the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, playing in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy. The next year, during the summer of 2017, Thompson joined the squad of Premier Development League club Derby City Rovers. He made his debut for the side on June 30, 2017, against the Cincinnati Dutch Lions, starting in the 3–0 defeat. Later that year, Thompson joined the youth academy at Sporting Kansas City. On March 7, 2019, Thompson signed with Swope Park Rangers, the reserve side of Sporting Kansas City in the USL Championship. Jefferson is an unincorporated community in Washington Township, Clinton County, Indiana. The town is named for U.S. President Thomas Jefferson. Floyds Knobs is a small unincorporated community in Lafayette Township, Floyd County, Indiana, United States. Historically a farming community on the outskirts of New Albany, it has since become a bedroom community for Louisville, Kentucky. It contains subdivisions, farms, small shopping centers, churches, and transmitters for many of the area's television and radio stations. Homegrown Player Rule (Major League Soccer)
The Homegrown Player Rule is a Major League Soccer program that allows MLS teams to sign local players from their own development academies directly to MLS first team rosters. Before the creation of the rule in 2008, every player entering Major League Soccer would have to be assigned through one of the existing MLS player allocation processes, such as the MLS SuperDraft. MLS roster rules allow a team to sign players to contracts similar to Generation adidas contracts, which do not count against the MLS salary budget and may earn a much higher salary than the league minimum. MLS has since removed this wording from the roster rules. 2020 USL Championship Season
The 2020 USL Championship season was the tenth season of the USL Championship and fourth under Division II sanctioning. This was the second season under the name "USL Championship", having used the name "United Soccer League" through 2018. Real Monarchs were the defending USL Cup champions. The 2020 season saw 35 teams participate in two conferences during the regular season. On November 8, 2019, Ottawa Fury FC announced that it had suspended operations. The team had received sanctioning from its country's governing body, Canada Soccer, but was denied by U.S. Soccer and the continental governing body of CONCACAF. The Cincinnati Dutch Lions FC is an American amateur soccer club based in Cincinnati, Ohio, and playing home games in the suburb of Highland Heights, Kentucky.
