Der Schwarze Walfisch
''The Black Whale'' (german: Der schwarze Walfisch) is a 1934 German Drama (film and television), drama film directed by Fritz Wendhausen and starring Emil Jannings, Angela Salloker and Max Gülstorff. It is based on the 1931 play ''Fanny (play), Fanny'' by Marcel Pagnol. The film's sets were designed by the art directors Otto Erdmann (art director), Otto Erdmann and Hans Sohnle. It was shot at the Halensee Studios in Berlin. Because the film had a Jews, Jewish producer it has some production issues due to the takeover of the Nazi Party. It premiered at the Ufa-Palast am Zoo. Plot ''The Black Whale'' is the German version of Marcel Pagnol's master piece ''Fanny (1932 film), Fanny''. Peter Petersen's son Martin abandoned his pregnant girlfriend Fanny to chase adventures on the sea. Peter Petersen then married Fanny with his friend Pannies, who adopted and raised the baby as his own. Martin return after several years determined to have Fanny and the child back. Fritz Wendhausen(7 August 1890, Wendhausen – 5 January 1962, Königstein im Taunus) was a German actor, screenwriter and film director. He is also credited as Frederick Wendhausen and F.R. Wendhausen. Hans Richter (12 January 1919 – 5 October 2008) was a German film actor. He appeared in more than 130 films between 1931 and 1984, mostly in supporting roles. He was born in Brandenburg, Germany and died in Heppenheim, Germany. Life and career Hans Richter made his film debut as "Fliegender Hirsch" in Gerhard Lamprecht's ''Emil and the Detectives'' (1931), based on the novel of the same name by Erich Kästner. In the following years, Richter become a popular juvenile actor; often playing clever, somewhat cheeky boys (a type similar to Mickey Rooney in the American film during the 1930s). When he reached legal age, he had appeared in over 50 films.
