Department Of Statistics (Bermuda)
The Bermuda Department of Statistics, subject to the Bermuda Statistics Act of 2002 as further amended, reports to the head of Cabinet Office. It was created mainly for the collection, compilation, analysis and publication of statistical information and so facilitate the development of a statistical system for Bermuda which is also a component of the regional statistical systems of CARICOM, together with other member countries of this regional institution. Hamilton, Bermuda
The City of Hamilton, in Pembroke Parish, is the territorial capital of the British Overseas Territory of Bermuda. It is the territory's financial centre and a major port and tourist destination. Its population of 854 (2016) is one of the smallest of any capital city. History The history of Hamilton as a British city began in 1790 when the government of Bermuda set aside for its future seat, officially incorporated in 1793 by an Act of Parliament, and named for Governor Henry Hamilton. The colony's capital relocated to Hamilton from St George's in 1815. The city has been at the political and military heart of Bermuda ever since. Sub-national Autonomous Statistical Services
Sub-national statistical services when autonomous are part of the overall statistical architecture of a country along with a central statistical organisation existing in nearly every country (see List of national and international statistical services), and also various sectoral statistical services established in Ministerial departments or other government agencies. This is particularly true in the case of most Federation of states as shown in the table below. Those of these sub-national statistical services established in non-independent territories (from UK, Netherlands, France, etc.) generally act as a central statistical organisation for the territory. United Nations Statistics Division
The United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), formerly the United Nations Statistical Office, serves under the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) as the central mechanism within the Secretariat of the United Nations to supply the statistical needs and coordinating activities of the global statistical system. The Division is overseen by the United Nations Statistical Commission, established in 1947, as the apex entity of the global statistical system and highest decision making body for coordinating international statistical activities. It brings together the Chief Statisticians from member states from around the world. Official statistics are statistics published by government agencies or other public bodies such as international organizations as a public good. They provide quantitative or qualitative information on all major areas of citizens' lives, such as economic and social development, living conditions, health, education, and the environment. During the 15th and 16th centuries, statistics were a method for counting and listing populations and State resources. The term ''statistics'' comes from the New Latin ''statisticum collegium'' (council of state) and refers to ''science of the state''.
