''Den nye lensmannen'' (The New Sheriff) is a 1926 Norwegian drama film directed by Leif Sinding, starring Haakon Hjelde. The new sheriff (''lensmann'') hides a secret: he is actually a gypsy ('' tater''). He tricks money from the locals, but he also helps two lovers unite. Leif Sinding
Leif Sinding (19 November 1895 – 13 May 1985) was a Norwegian film director and journalist. He worked for the newspapers ''Verdens Gang'', ''Aftenposten'', and ''Morgenbladet''. Among his silent films are ''Himmeluret'' from 1925, based on Gabriel Scott's comedy, and ''Fjeldeventyret'' from 1926. He directed the film ''Bra mennesker'' (1937), based on a play by Oskar Braaten, and the films ''De vergeløse'' (1939) and ''Tante Pose'' (1940), both based on novels by Gabriel Scott. In 1941 he directed the comedy '' Kjærlighet og vennskap''. During the German occupation of Norway Sinding collaborated with the Axis forces, was a member of Nasjonal Samling, and was sentenced to four years forced labour after the war. Robert Sperati
Robert Kristian Paolo Sperati (July 27, 1872 – October 12, 1945) was a Norwegian stage actor and film actor from the silent-film era. Career Sperati was born in Bergen. He made his debut at the National Theater in Bergen as the aristocrat in Turgenev's '' Fortune's Fool'' ( no, Nådsensbrødet) before he had success as Thummelumsen in Gustav Wied's comedy of the same name and in Anthon B. Nilsen's ''Bedstemors Gut'' (Grandma's Boy). He later worked in Oslo, at the Central Theater, the Oslo New Theater, and the Open-Air Theater on Bygdøy. Ellen Sinding (born ''Ellen Buttedahl''; April 17, 1899 – April 18, 1980) was a Norwegian actress and dancer. Sinding was born in Haugesund, the daughter of the actor and sculptor Sæbjørn Buttedahl and the actress Clare Petrea Margrethe Benelli (1871–1933). She debuted as an actress in 1922 in the film '' Kjærlighet paa pinde''. During the 1920s, Sinding also appeared in the films ''Til sæters'' (1924), '' Den nye lensmannen'' (1926), and '' Fjeldeventyret'' and '' Syv dage for Elisabeth'' (both in 1927). A (, ), tomte (), , or () is a mythological creature from Nordic folklore today typically associated with the winter solstice and the Christmas season. They are generally described as being short, having a long white beard, and wearing a conical or knit cap in gray, red or some other bright colour. They often have an appearance somewhat similar to that of a garden gnome. The nisse is one of the most familiar creatures of Scandinavian folklore, and he has appeared in many works of Scandinavian literature. Haakon Hjelde
Haakon Forsell Hjelde (February 12, 1902 – December 10, 1933) was a Norwegian actor. He also worked as a director's assistant and production manager's assistant. As a young man, he traveled to Berlin and then to Paris, where he lived and starred in several French films. He died of tuberculosis at age 31. Family Hjelde was born in Eidsvoll, Norway, the son of the veterinarian Baard Arne Hjelde (1872–1935) and Alma Forsell Jensen (1871–1918). He married the Swedish dancer Maina Claes in 1929.
