In mathematical group theory, a Demushkin group (also written as Demuškin or Demuskin) is a pro-''p'' group ''G'' having a certain properties relating to duality in group cohomology. In mathematics, a pro-''p'' group (for some prime number ''p'') is a profinite group G such that for any open normal subgroup N\triangleleft G the quotient group G/N is a ''p''-group. In mathematics (more specifically, in homological algebra), group cohomology is a set of mathematical tools used to study groups using cohomology theory, a technique from algebraic topology. Analogous to group representations, group cohomology looks at the group actions of a group ''G'' in an associated ''G''-module ''M'' to elucidate the properties of the group.
