Del Wilson Trophy
The Del Wilson Trophy is presented annually to the Western Hockey League's goaltender judged to be the best at his position. The award is named after Del Wilson for his many years of service to both the Regina Pats and the League. Wilson was an owner, Governor, and General Manager of the Pats and served 6 years as Chairman of the Board of the WHL. Wilson led the WHL into a partnership with Ontario and Quebec Major Junior Leagues. Previously, the WHL Top Goaltender Award. It was given to the League's Goals Against Average leader. Western Hockey League
The Western Hockey League (WHL) is a major junior ice hockey league based in Western Canada and the Northwestern United States. The WHL is one of three leagues that constitutes the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) as the highest level of junior hockey in Canada. Teams play for the Ed Chynoweth Cup, with the winner moving on to play for the Memorial Cup, Canada's national junior championship. WHL teams have won the Memorial Cup 19 times since the league became eligible to compete for the trophy. Taran Kozun
Taran Kozun (born August 29, 1994) is a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender. He is currently playing with the Coventry Blaze in the UK's Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL). Playing career During the 2014–15 WHL season while playing with the Seattle Thunderbirds, Kozun was awarded the Del Wilson Trophy as the WHL's top goaltender and was named to the WHL Western Conference First All-Star Team. After three seasons playing with Canadian University hockey with the Saskatchewan Huskies, claiming back-to-back U Sports Goaltender of the Year accolades, Kozun returned to the professional circuit in the ECHL, joining the Kansas City Mavericks on October 28, 2020. Darcy Kuemper
Darcy Kuemper (born May 5, 1990) is a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender currently playing for the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was selected by the Minnesota Wild in the sixth round, 161st overall, of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. He has also played in the NHL with the Los Angeles Kings, Arizona Coyotes and Colorado Avalanche. Kuemper won the Stanley Cup with the Avalanche in 2022. Competing internationally with Team Canada, he won gold at the 2021 IIHF World Championship. Early life Kuemper was born on May 5, 1990, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, to police officer Brent and accountant Sharon Kuemper. Medicine Hat Tigers
The Medicine Hat Tigers are a junior ice hockey team in the Western Hockey League (WHL) who play in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada. Established in 1970, the team has won two national Memorial Cups, five WHL League Championships and seven Division Titles, and continues to rally for the Cup annually. Tyler Bunz
Tyler Bunz (born February 11, 1992) is a Canadian former ice hockey goaltender who last played as a prospect within the Edmonton Oilers organization of the National Hockey League (NHL). Bunz was selected by the Edmonton Oilers in the 5th round (121st overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. On March 19, 2012, the Oilers signed Bunz to a three-year entry-level contract. On March 22, 2014, Bunz was hit in the throat by a puck, leading to a life-threatening injury. He recovered from his injury without needing surgery, and resumed his playing career. The 2011–12 WHL season is the 46th season of the Western Hockey League (WHL). The regular season began in September 2011 and ended in March 2012. Red Deer Rebels
The Red Deer Rebels are a Western Hockey League junior ice hockey team based in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. The Rebels play at the Peavey Mart Centrium. History A "Name the Team" contest ran in Red Deer from October 7 to 17, 1991. The top three ideas from the over 1000 entries were "Rebels", "Renegades", and "Centurions". Team management chose the name "Rebels". On February 5, 1992, the Rebels selected Mike McBain as their first player in the Bantam Draft. Patrik Bartošák (born 29 March 1993) is a Czech professional ice hockey goaltender. He is currently playing with the Lahti Pelicans of the Liiga. Kelowna Rockets
The Kelowna Rockets are a major junior ice hockey team based in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. The Rockets play in the Western Hockey League (WHL), out of the Canadian Hockey League (CHL). They play their home games at Prospera Place. The Rockets have won the WHL championship four times and have made it to the Memorial Cup finals three times, winning once.
