Del Mar Mesa, San Diego
Del Mar Mesa is a semi-rural residential community of located in northern San Diego, California. The majority of the community was developed in the 2000s. Over 900 acres is preserved open space protected habitat. The community also has 10 miles of hiking, biking and riding trails. Minimum lot size is half acre. Del Mar Mesa is a part of District 1 which is represented by Councilmember Joe LaCava on the San Diego City Council. A number of artifacts, including pottery, possibly dating back 9,000 to 10,000 years ago, were found in this community and are being studied by the San Diego Archaeological Center. Geography Del Mar Mesa is bordered to the north by Carmel Valley and Pacific Highlands Ranch, to the south by Los Peñasquitos Canyon, to the east by Torrey Highlands and Rancho Peñasquitos, and to the west by Torrey Hills. Torrey Hills is a community of located in northern San Diego, California, United States. Torrey Hills is a part of District 1 which is represented by Councilmember Joe LaCava on the San Diego City Council. Geography Torrey Hills is bordered to the north by State Route 56 and Carmel Valley, to the northeast by Carmel Valley, to the south and southeast by Los Peñasquitos Canyon and Mira Mesa, and to the west by Interstate 5. History Before European contact, Torrey Hills was part of a prehistoric trade route between the Kumeyaay trade village of Ystagua in Sorrento Valley and Ahwel-Awa in San Dieguito on the way to the Payómkawichum tribe in the north, which was adopted to become part of the El Camino Real under the Spanish. California State Route 56
State Route 56 (SR 56) is an east–west state highway in the U.S. state of California. It runs from Interstate 5 (I-5) in the Carmel Valley neighborhood of San Diego to I-15. The eastern terminus of the highway is also the western end of the Ted Williams Parkway. SR 56 serves as an important connector between I-5 and I-15, being the only east–west freeway between SR 78 in north San Diego County, several miles away, and SR 52 near Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. It is also named the Ted Williams Freeway, after the San Diego-born baseball player.
