Del Mar Debutante Stakes
The Del Mar Debutante Stakes is an American thoroughbred horse race for two-year-old fillies run each year in early September at Del Mar Racetrack in Del Mar, California. A Grade I event since 1999, the Debutante is raced on dirt at a distance of seven furlongs and currently offers a purse of $300,000. Inaugurated in 1951 at a distance of six furlongs, in 1974 the race was changed to a one-mile event then in 1993 to its current seven furlongs. From 2007 to 2014, it was run on a Polytrack all weather surface. The Del Mar Debutante Stakes was raced in two divisions in 1984. Del Mar Racetrack
The Del Mar Fairgrounds is a event venue in Del Mar, California. The annual San Diego County Fair is held here, which was called the Del Mar Fair from 1984 to 2001. In 1936, the Del Mar Racetrack was built by the Thoroughbred Club with founding member Bing Crosby providing leadership. The Fairgrounds is owned by the State of California and is managed by the 22nd District Agricultural Association, a state agency that hosts more than 300 annual events. Its staff organizes four major annual events, including the annual San Diego County Fair, and runs Surfside Race Place, the year-round satellite horse racing facility. The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club leases the facilities for their live meets each year. Bast (foaled January 19, 2017 ) is a retired American Thoroughbred racehorse, best known for winning the 2019 Del Mar Debutante Stakes, Chandelier Stakes, and Starlet Stakes. Background Bast is a bay filly with no markings and was the first foal out of the Arch mare Laffina. She was sold as a weanling at the Keeneland November Sale, where she was purchased for $200,000 by Bloodstock Investments V, and was sold again as a yearling at the Fasig-Tipton New York Sale, where she was purchased by Baoma Corporation for $500,000. She's a Tiger (foaled 10 May 2011) is an American Thoroughbred racehorse. In 2013, racing exclusively in California, she won three of her six races including the Del Mar Debutante Stakes and was disqualified after finishing first in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies. She was voted American Champion Two-Year-Old Filly for 2013. Background She's a Tiger is a bay filly with a narrow white blaze and two white socks bred in Kentucky by Rodney Orr. Songbird (foaled April 30, 2013) is a retired American Thoroughbred racehorse who was a two-time Eclipse Award winner. She won thirteen times, nine of them in Grade I races, and had career earnings of almost $4.7 million. She was the 2015 American Champion Two-Year-Old Filly after being undefeated in four starts, including Grade I victories in the Del Mar Debutante Stakes, Chandelier Stakes and Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies.
