Ernest Deighton
Sergeant Ernest Arthur Deighton (28 May 1889 – 5 December 1957) was an English World War I observer/gunner flying ace credited with 15 confirmed aerial victories; all but one of them was against enemy fighters. Military career World War I Deighton enlisted in the Royal Flying Corps on 15 March 1917 as a transport driver. As a corporal mechanic, he volunteered to fly as an observer/gunner in the rear seat of No. 20 Squadron's Bristol F.2 Fighters.Franks ''et.al.'' (1997), p. 13. Deighton flew as an observer/gunner for four pilot aces: Captain Wilfred Beaver, Lieutenants David John Weston, David Weston, Leslie Capel, and Ernest Lindup. Jeremy Deighton (born May 27, 1988) is an American soccer player. Career College and amateur Deighton attended Saint Ignatius High School in Cleveland, Ohio, where he was a three-year letter winner and a two-year starter for the No.1-ranked high school team in the nation. He was named his team's Most Valuable Offensive Player as a senior in 2005, leading the team to the Ohio Division I, State and National championships. Deighton was also a featured player on the SouthSide Bombers, a prominent indoor soccer club in the area. John Deighton
John Deighton (November 1830 – May 23, 1875), better known as "Gassy Jack", was a bar-owner in British Columbia. The Gastown neighbourhood of Vancouver, British Columbia takes its name from him. History Deighton was born in Hull, England. Growing up in Hull, a major seaport, Deighton and his brothers Tom and Richard learned to sail. Tom and Richard apprenticed on British ships, but Jack did not receive that opportunity. However, this meant he could switch to sailing on U.S. ships. When the California Gold Rush hit, ships were in demand to transport cargo and people from New York to San Francisco. In 1850, this voyage around Cape Horn took 140–160 days. Deighton signed up to work a new clipper ''Invincible'' that could sail 400 miles a day and made the trip in only 115 days. The next journey was to Hong Kong. Leonard Cyril Deighton (; born 18 February 1929) is a British author. His publications have included cookery books, history and military history, but he is best known for his spy novels. After completing his national service in the Royal Air Force, Deighton attended art school in London, and graduated from the Royal College of Art in 1955. He had several jobs before becoming a book and magazine illustrator—including designing the cover for first UK edition of Jack Kerouac's 1957 work ''On the Road''. He also worked for a period in an advertising agency. During an extended holiday in France he wrote his first novel, ''The IPCRESS File'', which was published in 1962, and was a critical and commercial success. Mother Earth (UK Band)
Mother Earth were an English acid jazz outfit based in London, formed by longtime Acid Jazz associate Bunny. The band members were Matt Deighton on guitar and vocals, Bryn Barklam on Hammond organ, Chris White on drums and Neil Corcoran on bass. Shauna Green was the lead singer on the first album. Prior to their debut live performance, where they played alongside another debutant band Jamiroquai, they started out as a studio project in 1991 with Paul Weller (on "Almost Grown"), James Taylor of the James Taylor Quartet and Simon Bartholomew from the Brand New Heavies as contributors. They released three studio albums and one live album. After they disbanded in 1996, two retrospective albums were released in 2001 and 2004. Deighton railway station serves the Deighton area of Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England. Deighton station is the first station northeast of Huddersfield railway station on the Huddersfield Line towards Leeds. History There have been two stations at Deighton, on different routes. The first station, on the branch line to , opened on 30 August 1871, the branch having opened in 1867. This station was situated on the north-east side of Whitacre Street. It closed on 28 July 1930. The present station was opened on 26 April 1982 by Metro (the West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive). It is to the south-west of Whitacre Street and close to the site of the former Kirkburton branch junction. Facilities The station is unstaffed but has a ticket machine. Deighton is a village and civil parish in the unitary authority of the City of York, North Yorkshire, England. The population of the civil parish as of the 2011 census was 291. It lies on the A19 road, A19 about five miles south of York. According to the United Kingdom Census 2001, 2001 census the parish had a population of 308. The village was historically part of the East Riding of Yorkshire until 1974. It was then a part of the Selby District in North Yorkshire from 1974 until 1996. Since 1996 it has been part of the City of York unitary authority. The parish also includes most of the Hamlet (place), hamlet of Crockey Hill.
