Degrassi Series
''Degrassi'' is a Canadian television franchise created by Kit Hood and Linda Schuyler in 1979. It is centred on a multigenerational teen drama about an ensemble cast of teenagers attending the namesake Toronto school as they navigate their adolescence and confront an array of social issues. The franchise is composed of five main series: ''The Kids of Degrassi Street'', ''Degrassi Junior High'', ''Degrassi High'', '' Degrassi: The Next Generation'', and '' Degrassi: Next Class'', and a variety of supplementary media, including television movies, documentaries, companion novels, non-fiction books, and soundtracks. Kit Hood
Christopher Hood (24 March 1943 – 20 January 2020) was a Canadian television editor, director, writer and producer. He is best known as the director and co-creator of the ''Degrassi'' franchise alongside Linda Schuyler, including the series ''The Kids of Degrassi Street'', ''Degrassi Junior High'', and ''Degrassi High,'' the latter two of which established the franchise's popularity and longevity. Career Christopher "Kit" Hood was born in London England in 1943, the son of Robert Hood and Eve Jennings, a writer of children's books. Hood worked as a child actor, then as a film editor with Walt Disney Productions in London. In 1969, he emigrated to Canada. Playing With Time, Inc. was a Canadian independent film and television production company based in Toronto, Ontario. Founded by Linda Schuyler and Kit Hood in 1976, it is best known for being the original production company for the ''Degrassi'' television franchise, producing ''The Kids of Degrassi Street'', ''Degrassi Junior High'' and ''Degrassi High.'' Telenovela
A telenovela is a type of a television serial drama or soap opera produced primarily in Latin America. The word combines ''tele'' (for "television") and ''novela'' (meaning "novel"). Similar drama genres around the world include '' teleserye'' (Philippines), '' téléroman'' (Canada, specifically Quebec), and ''sinetron'' (Indonesia). Commonly described using the American colloquialism Spanish soap opera, many telenovelas share some stylistic and thematic similarities to the soap opera familiar to the English-speaking world. The significant difference is their series run length; telenovelas tell one self-contained story, typically within the span of a year or less whereas soap operas tend to have intertwined storylines told during indefinite, continuing runs. TeenNick is an American Pay television, pay-TV channel that is operated by the Paramount Media Networks division of Paramount Global. Aimed primarily at teens and tweens, its programming includes a variety of live-action series inherited from sister channel Nickelodeon. The channel launched on September 28, 2009, as the merger between two defunct programming blocks which also targeted a teenage audience: TEENick on Nickelodeon and The N (TV programming block), The N on Noggin (brand), Noggin. Amanda Felicitas Stepto (born 31 July 1970) is a Canadian former actress who gained nationwide fame for her role as teen mother Christine "Spike" Nelson in the ''Degrassi'' franchise. Having no previous acting experience, Stepto rose to national prominence in the late 1980s portraying Spike on ''Degrassi Junior High'' (1987-89) and its follow-up ''Degrassi High'' (1989-91), of which were critical and commercial successes for the CBC. Christine "Spike" Nelson is a fictional character from the ''Degrassi'' teen drama franchise. The N (standing for Noggin) was a nighttime programming block on the Noggin television channel, aimed at preteens and teenagers. It was launched on April 1, 2002, by Viacom and Sesame Workshop. Before the block's introduction, Noggin's daytime lineup included tween shows such as ''A Walk in Your Shoes'', ''Sponk!'', and '' Big Kids''. In 2002, Noggin restructured its daytime lineup to cater to preschool children.
