Defne
Defne is a new intracity district and second-level municipality in Hatay Province, Turkey. According to Law act no 6360, all Turkish provinces with a population more than 750,000 were declared metropolitan municipality. The law also created new districts within the capital city which have second-level municipalities in addition the metropolitan municipality. Defne is one of them. Thus after 2014 the present Hatay central district was split into two. A part was named ''Defne'' and the name Hatay was reserved for the metropolitan municipality. Defne Magnanery
Defne Magnanery ( tr, Defne Koza Evi, lit=Cocoon House of Defne) is a vocational training center for silk farming, located at Defne in Hatay Province, southern Turkey. It was established by the Municipality of Defne to revive the silk farming and to provide livelihood to women. History Silk farming and weaving were common in Defne in the 1950s that sunk into oblivion in later years. The magnanery, situated at Harbiye neighborhood, 1079 St., 34, in Defne district of Hatay Province, was established by the district municipality in 2015. The mangnan and master instructor Tülay Genç, who runs the vocational training center, started the silk farming despite objections of her family. Previously, she had been helping her husband in silk weaving. Supported by her daughter Fulya, she learned silk farming, and took a certificate of training after attending a course. Hatay Province
Hatay Province ( tr, Hatay ili, ) is the southernmost province of Turkey. It is situated almost entirely outside Anatolia, along the eastern coast of the Levantine Sea. The province borders Syria to its south and east, the Turkish province of Adana to the northwest, Osmaniye to the north, and Gaziantep to the northeast. It is partially in Çukurova, a large fertile plain along Cilicia. Its administrative capital is Antakya, making it the only Turkish province not named after its administrative capital or any settlement. The Provinces of Turkey, 81 provinces of Turkey are divided into 973 districts (''ilçeler''; sing. ''ilçe''). Metropolitan Municipalities In Turkey
There are 81 provinces in Turkey ( tr, il). Among the 81 provinces, 30 provinces are designated metropolitan municipalities ( tr, büyükşehir belediyeleri). Metropolitan municipalities are subdivided into districts ( tr, ilçe), where each district includes a corresponding district municipality, which is a second tier municipality. History The first metropolitan municipalities were established in 1984. These were the three most populous cities in Turkey, namely; Istanbul, Ankara, and İzmir. In each metropolitan municipality a number of second level municipalities (ilçe municipality) were established. In 1986, four new metropolitan municipalities were established: Adana, Bursa, Gaziantep and Konya. Two years later the total number was increased to eight with the addition of Kayseri. Laurus
''Laurus'' () is a genus of evergreen trees or shrubs belonging to the laurel family, Lauraceae. The genus contains three or more species, including the bay laurel or sweet bay, ''L. nobilis'', widely cultivated as an ornamental plant and a culinary herb. Description They are slow-growing, large, evergreen aromatic shrubs or trees with alternate, ovate leaves and insignificant yellow male and female flowers borne on separate plants (dioecious). They are frost-hardy but in temperate zones they require a sheltered spot in full sun that is not subject to prolonged freezing.
