Deborah Mora Espinosa
Deborah Mora Espinosa (born 1951) is a Chicana activist in Colorado. She worked for History Colorado as the director of El Pueblo History Museum. Biography Early life Deborah Mora Espinosa was born in Grand Junction, Colorado in 1951 to parents Gilbert Mora-Durán and Calletana Mora-Adargo. She grew up in western Colorado where her father worked on the D&RGW Railroad in Colorado. He died when Espinosa was 12 years old. Her parents had limited education and highly valued it in their children. The Mora family had three boys and four girls, and all received their high-school diplomas. Espinosa faced discrimination based on class and her Chicano heritage. Her parents were stigmatized for speaking Spanish. She attended a parochial elementary school where she was one of two Mexican children. Colorado State University Pueblo (CSU Pueblo) is a public university in Pueblo, Colorado. It is a member of the Colorado State University System (CSU System) and a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI). History 1933 to 1959 The idea for starting a college in Pueblo was initially proposed in 1926, when a bill was put before the state Senate to begin a four-year school in the city. History Colorado Center
The History Colorado Center is a museum in Denver, Colorado, USA dedicated to the history of the state of Colorado. Construction on the $111 million building started on 19 August 2009. The museum opened on 28 April 2012 at 1200 Broadway, one block south of the site of its predecessor, the Colorado History Museum, which closed in 2010. The center is administered by History Colorado, formerly the Colorado Historical Society. Research The Stephen H. Hart Library & Research Center provides a collection of artifacts, archives and photography to History of Colorado's Collection. ''La Cucaracha'' (1976-1983) was an English and Spanish bilingual newspaper created by and for the Chicano community of Pueblo, Colorado. Creators Juan Espinosa, Deborah Espinosa, David Martinez and Pablo Mora recognized the exclusion of Chicanos in popular media and published the first issue in 1976. History While Juan and Deborah Espinosa attended the University of Colorado Boulder, they were active in El Movimiento and student civil rights groups such as United Mexican American Students (UMAS). They started a student newspaper, ''El Diario de la Gente'', to build cultural awareness of their community. They saw themselves being misrepresented by white mass media outlets and desired an outlet to tell their own stories. Los Seis De Boulder
Los Seis de Boulder () were six Chicano activists and students killed in two car bombings in Boulder, Colorado. The bombings occurred at the end of May 1974, with the name ''Los Seis de Boulder'' coined posthumously. The students were protesting the negative treatment of Mexican-American students at the University of Colorado, Boulder at the time of their death. Memorials to the bombing victims have been installed on the University of Colorado campus and in Chautauqua Park. Involvement of Los Seis in student groups Los Seis were active in the UMAS (United Mexican American Students) at the University of Colorado Boulder.
