Dead On Time (1983 Film)
''Dead on Time'' is a 1983 British short film directed by Lyndall Hobbs and written by Richard Curtis and Rowan Atkinson. Plot The film is a comedy which tells the story of Bernard Fripp ( Rowan Atkinson) a man who, on attending a routine check-up, is diagnosed by his doctor (Nigel Hawthorne) as having a rare disease leaving him only 30 minutes to live. By the time he leaves the surgery, he only has 24 minutes left, in which he attempts to live life to the full; taking out his life savings, trying to make peace with God (via a vicar played by ( Jim Broadbent)), attempting to learn about the significance of the ''Mona Lisa'', reading the back cover of ''War and Peace'' to find out what happens in it, listening to Albinoni's ''Adagio in G minor'' and looking for true love. Lyndall Hobbs
Lyndall Hobbs (born 1952) is an Australian film director and producer. Life and career Hobbs was born in Australia in 1952. She spent many years in the United Kingdom, during which time she directed the documentary film ''Steppin' Out'' (1979) featuring the UK act Secret Affair, and hosting ''Hobb's Choice'' television show, before moving to Hollywood, Los Angeles, Hollywood in the United States. In 1983, she directed the short film, ''Dead on Time (1983 film), Dead on Time'', starring Rowan Atkinson. In 1987, she directed her first and to date only full-length feature film, ''Back to the Beach'' starring Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello. Alternative Comedy
Alternative comedy is a term coined in the 1980s for a style of comedy that makes a conscious break with the mainstream comedic style of an era. The phrase has had different connotations in different contexts: in the UK, it was used to describe content that was an "alternative" to the mainstream of live comedy, which often involved racist and sexist material. In other contexts, it is the nature of the form that is "alternative", avoiding reliance on a standardised structure of a sequence of jokes with punch lines. Patton Oswalt has defined it as "comedy where the audience has no pre-set expectations about the crowd, and vice versa. In comedy clubs, there tends to be a certain vibe—alternative comedy explores different types of material." In an interview with ''The A.V.
