Dead Again (Type O Negative Album)
''Dead Again'' (stylized as ''DЭДD ДGДIИ'') is the seventh and final studio album by the American gothic metal band Type O Negative, released before the death of frontman Peter Steele in 2010, and subsequent dissolution of the band. It was released on March 13, 2007, through record label Steamhammer, a subsidiary of SPV. Recording The band uses studio drums instead of a drum machine for the first time since their third album, ''Bloody Kisses''. Thus, it remains the only Type O Negative studio album with Johnny Kelly's actual playing, as he was only "credited" as the drummer on the three albums prior to ''Dead Again''. Content The cover photo is a portrayal of Grigori Rasputin, the Russian mystic and associate of Tsar Nicholas II. The lettering is in a faux-Cyrillic font. Type O Negative
Type O Negative were an American gothic metal band formed in Brooklyn, New York City in 1989 by Peter Steele (bass, lead vocals), Kenny Hickey (guitar, co-lead vocals), Josh Silver (keyboards, backing vocals), and Sal Abruscato (drums, percussion), who was later replaced by Johnny Kelly. Their lyrical emphasis on themes of romance, depression, and death resulted in the nickname "the Drab Four" (in homage to the Beatles' "Fab Four" moniker). The band went platinum with 1993's ''Bloody Kisses'', and gold with 1996's ''October Rust'', and gained a fanbase through seven studio albums, two best-of compilations, and concert DVDs. Steele died on April 14, 2010, at the age of 48; some sources report the cause of death as heart failure brought on by an aortic aneurysm, while others list sepsis caused by diverticulitis. Nicholas II or Nikolai II Alexandrovich Romanov; spelled in pre-revolutionary script. A phonograph record (also known as a gramophone record, especially in British English), or simply a record, is an analog sound storage medium in the form of a flat disc with an inscribed, modulated spiral groove. The LP (from "long playing" or "long play") is an analog sound storage medium, a phonograph record format characterized by: a speed of rpm; a 12- or 10-inch (30- or 25-cm) diameter; use of the "microgroove" groove specification; and a vinyl (a copolymer of vinyl chloride acetate) composition disk. ''Symphony for the Devil'' is a live DVD by Type O Negative released on March 14, 2006. It is a video of a live concert at the Bizarre Festival in 1999, with a behind-the-scenes look at Type O Negative, an interview with the band, commentary, biographies of the band members and a collection of photographs. The DVD was recorded on Sunday August 22, 1999, at the 12th Bizarre Festival in Cologne, Germany. This gig was originally recorded for a German live-in-concert program, ''WDR Rockpalast'', and broadcast on German television. The band bought the live footage because it seemed to be the best one available to date regardless of the previous TV releases. Twelve cameras were used. The DVD does not have the performances of the cover songs "Back in the USSR" and "Day Tripper Medley" that were part of the live show and TV broadcast. Grigori Yefimovich Rasputin (; rus, links=no, Григорий Ефимович Распутин ; – ) was a Russian mystic and self-proclaimed holy man who befriended the family of Nicholas II, the last Emperor of Russia, thus gaining considerable influence in late Imperial Russia. Rasputin was born to a peasant family in the Siberian village of Pokrovskoye in the Tyumensky Uyezd of Tobolsk Governorate (now Yarkovsky District of Tyumen Oblast).
