Lancelot De Carle
Lancelot de Carle (also Carles) (c. 1508 – July 1568), Bishop of Riez, was a French scholar, poet and diplomat. He was in London in 1536, in the service of the French Ambassador, Antoine de Castelnau. Carle was an eyewitness to the trial and execution of Anne Boleyn, Queen consort of Henry VIII, and shortly afterwards, he wrote a poem detailing her life and the circumstances surrounding her death. Family Lancelot de Carle was the son of Jean de Carle, seigneur de Peyrissac, and Jacquette, daughter of Baude de Constantin, who married in Bordeaux in 1500 and had three sons and a daughter: * Pierre de Carle * Francois de Carle * Lancelot de Carle * Marguerite de Carle, widow of Jean Arsac, married Étienne de La Boétie. Nichole de Carle is a British fashion designer best known for her lingerie and swimwear brand of the same name. Personal life De Carle was born in Leicestershire. She graduated with a BA in Contour Fashion from De Montfort University in 2005. She has two sisters. Her sister Charlotte de Carle became a fashion model after modelling lingerie for Nichole. Arthur De Carle Sowerby
Arthur de Carle Sowerby (8 July 1885 – 16 August 1954; ) was a British naturalist, explorer, writer, and publisher in China. His father was Arthur Sowerby (15 October 1857 – 27 June 1934; ). Background Arthur Sowerby was the son of a Christian missionary in China, the Reverend Arthur Sowerby, and Louisa Clayton. He was also the great-great-grandson of James Sowerby the botanist and founder of the Geological Society. From 1881, Arthur's parents were based at the Baptist Missionary Society mission station in Shanxi. The Sowerby family was on furlough in England at the time of the 1900 Boxer Rebellion during which many of their friends and colleagues at their Shanxi mission station were massacred. James De Carle Sowerby
James De Carle Sowerby (5 June 1787 – 26 August 1871) was a British mineralogist, botanist, and illustrator. He received an education in chemistry. Sowerby was born in London, the son of botanical artist James Sowerby (1757–1822), and his wife, Anne de Carle (1764–1815). He continued his father's work and published, together with his brother George Brettingham Sowerby I, the latter volumes of the ''Mineral Conchology of Great Britain'', begun by their father. Together with a cousin, he founded the Royal Botanic Society and Gardens, and was its secretary for 30 years. His son William Sowerby was also a botanist and illustrator, and succeeded him as Secretary of the Royal Botanic Society in 1869. In 1846, John William Salter (English naturalist, geologist, palaeontologist, and leading authority on trilobites) married Sally, daughter of Sowerby, and eventually fathered seven children with her.
