Daylesford is a small, privately owned village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Adlestrop, in the Cotswold district, in the county of Gloucestershire, England, on the border with Oxfordshire. It is situated just south of the A436 two miles east of Stow-on-the-Wold and five miles west of Chipping Norton. The village is on the north bank of the small River Evenlode. This area falls within the Cotswold Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, so designated in 1966. In 1931 the parish had a population of 82. Daylesford is an unincorporated community in Tredyffrin Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania, United States, in the southeastern part of the state, near Philadelphia. Located near the end of the Main Line, it is served by its own stop on the SEPTA Paoli/Thorndale Line. Daylesford station is a commuter rail station located in the western suburbs of Philadelphia at Glenn Avenue and Lancaster Avenue in Berwyn, Pennsylvania. It is served by most Paoli/Thorndale Line trains. Description The Daylesford station has no station building. There is a shelter for eastbound waiting passengers. This station replaced an older wooden shelter built by the Pennsylvania Railroad that was located on Lincoln Highway and Conestoga Lane. It was razed in 2000. There is no ticket office at this station. There are 152 parking spaces at the station. This station is 18.6 track miles from Philadelphia's Suburban Station. Daylesford Abbey is a Roman Catholic monastery of Canons Regular of Premontre, located in Chester County, Pennsylvania, about 20 miles west of Philadelphia. The Abbey is named after Daylesford, Pennsylvania, where the Norbertine Fathers established the foundation that developed into the Abbey. The Premonstratensian Fathers are also known as Norbertines, after St. Norbert of Xantern who founder of the Order in 1121. Daylesford Abbey is one of two Norbertine Abbeys founded by Abbot Bernard Pennings of De Pere, Wisconsin. Pennings was a Norbertine Priest sent from Berne Abbey, Netherlands, who founded the Premonstratensian Order in the United States. Daylesford Football Netball Club, nicknamed the Bulldogs, is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the Victorian town of Daylesford. The club plays in the Central Highlands Football League. The team was formerly known as the Daylesford Demons until 2006, when they joined the Central Highlands Football League. The club competed for many years in the Ballarat Football League winning only one premiership. In 1961, with the help of Jim Gull (ex player) who would kick the league goalkicking record of 159 goals ''the Demons'' won their only flag. The club fell quickly back to the bottom of the ladder and for many years the club struggled to be competitive before deciding in switching leagues in the early 2006. The Daylesford Spa Country Railway (which is operated by the Central Highlands Tourist Railway) is a volunteer-operated gauge tourist railway located in Victoria, Australia. It operates on a section of the closed and dismantled Daylesford line, and currently runs services between Daylesford and the hamlet of Bullarto. History Victorian Railways era The original line was opened in two stages, from the mainline junction at Carlsruhe to the town of Trentham, on 16 February 1880. The remainder of the line was opened a month later on 17 March. The line initially had significant goods and passenger traffic, with 50,000 passengers travelling the line in 1884 alone. However, over the next seventy years, both traffic and the quality of line gradually degraded, until the last passenger service was replaced with a road coach in 1978.
