Dayirman ( az, Dəyirman) was the first Azerbaijani hip hop group, based in Baku and was founded in 1996 by four friends. The word ''Dayirman'' means ''windmill'' in Azerbaijani language. The group fuses hip-hop with elements of traditional Meykhana Meykhana ( az, Meyxana) is a distinctive Azerbaijani literary and folk rap tradition, consisting of an unaccompanied song performed by one or more people improvising on a particular subject. Qurd (album)
''Qurd'' is a studio album by the Dayirman. The album contains fifteen compositions based on Azerbaijani hip hop. Content Subject matter ''Qurd'' is a reflective album, featuring Dayirman's more personal and serious side. This change gives the album a lighter tone, a departure from his previous albums. One of the most noticeable changes is the generally lighter lyrical content. Over the course of the album, the group touches on the issues of Karabakh in hip hop ("Ya Qarabağ, Ya Ölüm"), Pan-Turkism ("Turk turke dastak"), the Turan and Tengrism ("Qurd"). Mir Yusif Mir Heydar oglu Mirbabayev ( az, Miryusif Mirheydər oğlu Mirbabayev, Мирјусиф Мирһејдәр оғлу Мирбабајев, born 27 October 1977), better known as Miri Yusif, is an Azerbaijani rapper, singer-songwriter. Miri Yusif first emerged as a hip hop artist, part of Dayirman, which released their debut album Qurd in 2001. In 2010s, despite the commercial dominance of hip-hop during this period, he found success with his reggae and soul fusion album "Karma", peaked at number 1 in the Azerbaijani Albums Chart in 2010. Meykhana
Meykhana ( az, Meyxana) is a distinctive Azerbaijani literary and folk rap tradition, consisting of an unaccompanied song performed by one or more people improvising on a particular subject. Meykhana is distinct from spoken word poetry in that it is performed in time to a beat. Meykhana is often compared to hip hop music, also known as ''national rap'' among Azerbaijani residents, as it also includes performers that is spoken lyrically, in rhyme and verse, generally to an instrumental or synthesized beat. Performers also incorporate synthesizers, drum machines, and live bands. Meykhana masters may write, memorize, or improvise their lyrics and perform their works a cappella or to a beat. Toni Blackman
Toni Blackman is an American rapper (specializing in freestyle hip-hop) and writer who was the first hip-hop ambassador to the U.S. State Department. Additionally, she was selected as a 2006 Rhythm Road touring artist and subsequently served as on the selection committee for '' American Music Abroad'' (formerly Jazz at Lincoln Center's ''Rhythm Road'') with American Voices. The Central Asia-Caucasus Institute or CACI was founded in 1996 by S. Frederick Starr, a research professor at Johns Hopkins University's School of Advanced International Studies.
