Bernhard Dawson
Bernhard Hildebrandt Dawson (September 21, 1890 – June 18, 1960) was a U.S.-born Argentine astronomer. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri and earned a B.S. from the University of Michigan, 1916. From 1913 onward, he worked at the La Plata Observatory, Argentina. In 1933 he was awarded a Ph.D. from Michigan with a thesis titled, "The System Beta 1000 Plus Delta 31". He was a professor at Faculdad de Ingeniería de San Juan from 1948 until 1955. His astronomical studies included southern double stars, variable stars, occultations, asteroids and comets. On November 8, 1942 he may have discovered Nova Puppis 1942. In 1958, he became the first president of the Asociación Argentina de Astronomía. The botanist, Genoveva Dawson, is his great-granddaughter. Benjamin Dawson
Benjamin Dawson (1729–1814) was an English minister, initially Presbyterian but then Anglican, and linguist. Life The sixth son of Eli Dawson, Presbyterian minister, and brother of the scholar Abraham Dawson, he was born at Halifax. In 1746 he and his elder brother Thomas entered the dissenting academy at Kendal under Caleb Rotheram, as exhibitioners of the London Presbyterian Board. From Kendal in 1749 they went to Glasgow, remaining there four years as scholars on Dr. Daniel Williams's foundation. Benjamin defended a thesis ''de summo bono'', on taking his M.A. degree. In 1754 Dawson succeeded Gaskell as presbyterian minister at Leek, Staffordshire, but soon moved to Congleton, Cheshire, probably to assist in the school of Edward Harwood. Shortly afterwards he followed his brother Thomas to London, and in 1757 was assistant to Henry Read, Presbyterian minister at St. Thomas's, Southwark. Barbara Dawson (born 26 April 1957) is an Irish author, editor, art historian, gallery director, and curator. She is curator of several art exhibitions including the works of notable artists such as Francis Bacon (2009). Dawson is the first female director of the Hugh Lane Gallery, a municipal art gallery and "the first known public gallery of modern art in the world" in Dublin. She has been the gallery's director since 1991. She authored several books including ''Hugh Lane Gallery: Director's Choice''.
