Billie Dawe
Billie Dawe (June 8, 1924 – May 20, 2013) was a Canadians, Canadian amateur ice hockey player. He was a member of the 1950 World Champion team, the Edmonton Mercurys (the Mercs), and captained that team to a gold medal at the Ice hockey at the 1952 Winter Olympics, 1952 Winter Olympics. Early life Dawe was born in Cochrane, Alberta, but lived most of his life in Edmonton. His mother, Hilda, was a British war bride of his father, Bill, who met her while he was serving in the Canadian Expeditionary Force during World War I. The hockey-playing Dawe would meet his own wife, Lee, in Manitoba, Canada, while training to be a pilot for the Royal Canadian Air Force at RCAF Station Gimli during World War II. Bryan John Dawe (born 21 March 1948) is an Australian writer, comedian, political satirist, songwriter, photographer and social activist. He is known predominantly for his long-running collaboration with fellow satirist, John Clarke, which lasted from 1989 until Clarke's death in 2017; Dawe has also achieved success as a painter and public speaker. Collaboration with John Clarke Dawe was a regular collaborator of fellow satirist the late John Clarke in the form of mock interviews, first for ''A Current Affair'' and then for '' The 7.30 Report''. William Carlton Lanyon Dawe, generally known as Carlton Dawe (30 July 1865 – 30 May 1935), was a prolific Australian author of over 70 books including romance, mystery and crime. Biography William was born in Moonta, South Australia in 1865 to Henry Dawe and Francis Lanyon. Dawe was born in Adelaide and came from an old Cornish family. He grew up with his sister, Gwendoline Lanyon Dawe. Dawe came to Melbourne with his parents around 1880. In 1885, he published in ''Sydonia and other Poems'' in London, beginning a trend of publishing novels in both this city and his local Melbourne. In 1886 ''Love and the World and other Poems'' was published in Melbourne. As these poems were possibly considered no more than average quality, they did not suggest any particular promise. Acting Elle Dawe studied acting while attending Newtown High School of the Performing Arts in her younger years. George Dawe (6 February 1781 – 15 October 1829) was an English portraitist who painted 329 portraits of Russian generals active during Napoleon's invasion of Russia for the Military Gallery of the Winter Palace. He relocated to Saint Petersburg in 1819, where he won acclaim for his work from the artistic establishment and complimentary verses by Pushkin. He was the son of Philip Dawe, a successful mezzotint engraver who also produced political cartoons relating to the events of the Boston Tea Party. One of his brothers was Henry Edward Dawe, also a portraitist. He died on 15 October 1829 in Kentish Town, United Kingdom. Gerald Dawe (born 1952) is an Irish poet. Early life Gerald Dawe was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland and grew up with his mother, sister and grandmother. He attended Orangefield High School across the city in East Belfast, a leading progressive liberal state school. He was later involved in the Lyric Youth Theatre under inspirational teacher and theatre director, Sam McCready. Around this time he started to write poems and after a brief period living in London, he returned to the North, receiving a B.A. (Hons) from the fledgling New University of Ulster (1974) where his professor was the left-wing literary critic and novelist, Walter Allen. Jason Eric Dawe (born May 29, 1973) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. Biography Dawe was born in North York, and grew up in Scarborough. As a youth, Dawe played in the 1987 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with the Toronto Young Nationals minor ice hockey team. Dawe was drafted in the second round, 35th overall, by the Buffalo Sabres in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft. Dawe played his junior hockey career with the Peterborough Petes of the Ontario Hockey League, where he compiled 337 points in 241 games and was part of the Petes' Memorial Cup finalist in 1993. During the same season, Dawe joined Team Canada for the 1993 World Junior Championships, where he scored six points in seven games on the way to earning a gold medal. Leonard Sydney Dawe (3 November 1889 – 12 January 1963) was an English amateur footballer who played in the Southern League for Southampton between 1912 and 1913, and made one appearance for the England national amateur football team in 1912. He later became a schoolteacher and crossword compiler for ''The Daily Telegraph'' newspaper and in 1944 was interrogated on suspicion of espionage in the run-up to the D-Day landings. Tom Dawe, (born October 24, 1940) is a Canadian writer from Newfoundland and Labrador. Life Born in Long Pond, Newfoundland, Dawe has written poetry and children's literature for many years. He is also a visual artist. His work often draws on folklore, mythology, autobiography, and Newfoundland culture, particularly the experience of growing up in a Newfoundland outport community. Dawe was a founding member in 1973 of Breakwater Books, the province's first publishing house. He was also a co-founder of ''TickleAce'' magazine, and an editor of the folklore publication ''The Livyer''. Dawe also taught English at Memorial University of Newfoundland. His work is the subject of ''Rewriting Newfoundland Mythology: The Works of Tom Dawe'', by Martina Seifert.
