The David di Donatello Award for Best New Director (Italian: ''David di Donatello per il miglior regista esordiente'') is a film award presented annually by the Accademia del Cinema Italiano (ACI, ''Academy of Italian Cinema'') to recognize the outstanding feature-film directorial debut of a film director who has worked within the Italian film industry during the year preceding the ceremony. Alessandro Benvenuti (born 31 January 1950) is an Italian actor, film director and screenwriter. He was co-founder, together with Francesco Nuti and Athina Cenci, of the comedy ensemble "GianCattivi" with whom he achieved his first successes on stage and on television. He made his film debut in '' West of Paperino'', for which he won the 1982 Silver Ribbon for Best New Director, therefore he started a critically appreciated career as director, screenwriter and actor of a set of original, offbeat comedies.
