David Walsh (rugby League)
David Walsh (born 6 September 1970) is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1990s. He played his entire career for the Illawarra Steelers in the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) competition. Playing career Walsh made his first grade debut for Illawarra against Eastern Suburbs in Round 16 1990 at Henson Park in front of 2600 spectators. In 1992, Walsh played 22 games for Illawarra as the club made their first ever finals appearance. Walsh played in all of the club's finals matches including their 4-0 defeat against St George in the preliminary final. The loss was hard to take for Illawarra as they had beaten St George 18-16 just two weeks earlier in the qualifying final. Wollongong
Wollongong ( ), colloquially referred to as The Gong, is a city located in the Illawarra region of New South Wales, Australia. The Tooheys Challenge Cup (subsequently known by various other sponsors' names including the Network 10, Channel Ten Challenge Cup, Lotteries in Australia, Lotto Challenge Cup and Tooheys Brewery, Tooheys Challenge Cup) was a Pre-season knockout rugby league competition run by the New South Wales Rugby League held in Australia between 1978 and 1995. Shellharbour City Dragons
The Shellharbour City Dragons are an Australian rugby league football club based in the Shellharbour, New South Wales. They currently are not competing in any competitions and formerly competed in the New South Wales Cup in 2009 and 2010 and acted as a feeder club to the NRL club St. George Illawarra Dragons. History The Shellharbour City Dragons were formed from current Illwarra Carlton League and former Group 7 Rugby League member, the Shellharbour Sharks. The Sharks administration still run this version of Shellharbour City representation as well as the other Sharks sides. St George Dragons
The St. George Dragons is an Australian rugby league football club from St George District in Sydney, New South Wales that played in the top level New South Wales competition and Australian Rugby League competitions from the 1921 until the 1997 ARL season, as well as the unified 1998 National Rugby League season. On 23 September 1998, the club formed a joint venture with the Illawarra Steelers, creating the St. George Illawarra Dragons team which competed in the 1999 NRL season and continues to compete in the league today. Henson Park
Henson Park is a multi purpose sports ground in Marrickville, New South Wales, Australia. History It was established in 1933 on the site of Daley's brick pit, Thomas Daley operated the Standsure Brick Company from 1886 to 1914. The brickworks occupied 9 acres (3.6 ha) and employed approximately 60 people. When the brickworks closed the pits filled with rain and ground water. The largest waterhole was known as "The Blue Hole"and was 40 to 80 feet in places (12.2 to 24.4 metres). Marrickville Council purchased the site in 1923 as it was a serious danger. Unfortunately nine young boys drowned in the old water hole. In 1932 a grant was received to level the ground and work commenced as part of the Unemployment Relief Scheme. The oval is set within a shallow hollow, formed by the upper edges of the former brickpit.
