David Saul
David John Saul (Warwick, 27 November 1939 – Devonshire, 15 May 2017) was a Bermudian politician who was the Premier of Bermuda from 1995 to 1997. Political career Having finished his career in business David Saul was elected in 1989 from the United Bermuda Party (UBP) and soon after became a Minister of Finance at the government of John Swan. In 1995 the latter appointed him as his successor at the head of United Bermuda Party and government. Saul was the fifth premier of Bermuda from 25 August 1995 to 27 March 1997, and his main task was negotiations with the British government of John Major about receiving British citizenship for the inhabitants of Bermuda. However, during Saul's tenure, UBP divided in two parts. One part supported the former Premier John Swan, who wanted to bring the franchise of McDonald's restaurants he owned to Bermuda. Warwick Parish
Warwick Parish is one of the nine parishes of Bermuda. It is named after Robert Rich, 2nd Earl of Warwick (1587-1658). It is located in the central south of the island chain, occupying part of the main island to the southeast of the Great Sound, the large expanse of water which dominates the geography of western Bermuda, and also a number of islands which lie within that sound. It is joined to Southampton Parish in the southwest, and to Paget Parish in the northeast. As with most of Bermuda's parishes, it covers just over 2.3 square miles (about 6.0 km² or 1500 acres). It had a population of 9,002 in 2016. Natural features in Warwick include Warwick Long Bay, Riddell's Bay, Darrell's Island, Hawkins Island, Long Island, and Marshall's Island. Devonshire Parish
Devonshire Parish is one of the nine parishes of Bermuda. Originally named ''Cavendish Tribe'' and later Devonshire Tribe, for William Cavendish, 1st Earl of Devonshire (1552–1626). ''Devonshire Redoubt'', on Castle Island, one of the Castle Harbour fortifications of St. George's Parish, was also named after him. Location It is located in the centre of the territory, close to the junction between the main part of the main island and the peninsula containing the capital, Hamilton, and Pembroke Parish (to which it is joined in the west). To the northeast, it is joined to Smith's Parish, and to the southwest it borders Paget Parish. As with most of Bermuda's parishes, it covers just over . United Bermuda Party
The United Bermuda Party (UBP) was a political party in Bermuda, which represented itself as centrist party with a moderate social and fiscal agenda. The party held power in Bermuda's House of Assembly continuously from 1968 to 1998, the 47-year-old party was dissolved on 30 June 2011 after the majority of its members joined the One Bermuda Alliance. John Swan (Bermudian Politician)
Sir John William David Swan (born 3 July 1935) is a former Bermudian political figure. A real estate developer, a political luminary and a philanthropist, Swan served as Premier of Bermuda from 1982 to 1995. Swan built his reputation through property development. Elected to Parliament in 1972, the former Premier established the island as a major offshore financial center, and under Swan's stewardship the Government completed in excess of 20 major projects. In 1985 Swan led the negotiations and the completion of the Tax Treaty with the United States. The agreement resulted in the development of the insurance and reinsurance industries.
