David Norman (soccer)
David McDonald Norman Jr. (born 6 May 1962) is a Canadian former soccer player who played as a defensive midfielder. Club career Scotland-born Norman grew up playing soccer in Coquitlam, British Columbia and went on to play 17 years as a professional. Norman began his pro career with the Vancouver Whitecaps of the North American Soccer League from 1981 to 1984, scoring three goals. During the winter months between 1980 and 1982, he played for University College Dublin A.F.C., in the League of Ireland, making 45 appearances and scoring 8 goals. Along with three Canadian teammates he was released in February 1982. Norman played one season of indoor soccer for the Whitecaps in 1983–84. He also played for the Tacoma Stars of the original Major Indoor Soccer League, and for the Winnipeg Fury, Calgary Kickers, Calgary Strikers, Edmonton Brick Men and Vancouver 86ers. Dongdaemun Stadium
Dongdaemun Stadium was a sports complex in Seoul, South Korea and included a multi-purpose stadium, a baseball park and other sports facilities. It was located near Dongdaemun or Great East Gate. The surrounding Dongdaemun market had many vendors selling athletics-related goods. It was demolished in 2008 to make way for the Dongdaemun Design Plaza & Park. Merlion Cup
The Merlion Cup was an invitational football tournament that was held in Singapore annually from 1982–1986, in 1992, 2009 and 2019. Participants included full national sides, Olympic sides, Invitational XI's and club teams. After the 1986 tournament, four Canadian players (Igor Vrablic, Hector Marinaro, David Norman and Chris Chueden) were suspended after a match-fixing scandal. History The inaugural Merlion Cup was held in 1982 and was held annually until 1986. The tournament was not held in 1987 due to financial constraints and the planned tournament would have scheduling conflict with the Malaysia Cup. Chris Chueden
Christopher Hoyer Chueden (born 18 February 1961 in British Columbia) is a Canadian retired soccer player who earned six caps for the national team in 1986, scoring one goal in the process. In 1979, Chueden was on the Canadian U-20 team at the 1979 FIFA World Youth Championship. Chueden played three seasons in the North American Soccer League, two with the Montreal Manic and one with the San Diego Sockers. In 1985, Chueden signed with the Cleveland Force of the Major Indoor Soccer League. On March 6, 1987, the Force traded Chueden to the Los Angeles Lazers in exchange for Paul Kitson. He spent one season in the Canadian Soccer League playing for the Edmonton Brick Men. Chueden then returned to the Sockers, who at that point were playing indoor in the MISL. Hector Luis Marinaro Jr (born December 6, 1964) is a Canadian soccer coach and former player who is the men's soccer coach at John Carroll University. As a player he was the all-time leader in points and goals in professional indoor soccer, and made 6 appearances for the Canadian national team. Club career Youth Marinaro is the son of Hector Marinaro, Sr., a native of Argentina who both played and coached extensively in Canada. Indoor career Marinaro returned to Cleveland because of the excellent memories he had of playing his rookie year there. On June 23, 2004, the Chicago Storm drafted Marinaro with the 16th pick in the MISL expansion draft. Igor Vrablic (born 19 July 1965) is a Canadian former soccer player who played at both professional and international levels, as a striker. Early and personal life Vrablic was born in Bratislava and raised in Waterloo, Ontario. Career Club career Vrablic played with Kitchener Beograd at the youth level. He was drafted in the 2nd round, 13th overall in the 1982 NASL entry draft by the Toronto Blizzard. The 1986 FIFA World Cup was the 13th FIFA World Cup, a quadrennial Association football, football tournament for men's senior national teams. It was played in Mexico from 31 May to 29 June 1986. The tournament was the second to feature a 24-team format.
