David McCarthy (politician)
David McCarthy (1925 –14 July 1973) was a unionist politician in Northern Ireland. Born in Belfast, McCarthy studied at the Belfast Municipal College of Technology before working as a quantity surveyor. He was elected to Ballymena Borough Council for the Ulster Unionist Party in 1965, serving until 1973. By 1970, he was the manager of a building firm, and became the Chairman of the Ballymena Chamber of Commerce. In 1972, he was elected Chairman of the Mid Antrim Unionist Association, and, the following year, he was appointed as President of Ballymena United F.C. At the 1973 Northern Ireland Assembly election, he was elected in North Antrim. He went on holiday immediately after the election, and was killed in a car crash. Four of his five children were in the car at the time it crashed along with his wife Daphne, all sustained injuries but none too serious. David McCarthy (sprinter)
David McCarthy (born 16 July 1983 in Dublin) is an Irish medal-winning sprinter who specialized in the 400 metres and began racing over 800 metres in 2007. He finished seventh at the 2002 World Junior Championships in Kingston and fifth at the 2003 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Birmingham. David McCarthy (born 3 August 1988 in Waterford, Ireland) is a middle-distance athlete who has won international medals. After being voted Irish athlete of the month for April 2009, McCarthy won the bronze medal in the men's 5000 metres at the 2009 European Under-23 Athletics Championships in Kaunas, Lithuania - the only Irish medal of the Championships. McCarthy's third-place finish saw him beaten by gold-medallist Mohamed Elbendir of Spain and French athlete Noureddine Smaïl - both of whom were African-born. David John Haskins (born 24 April 1957, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England), better known as David J, is a British alternative rock musician, producer, and writer. He is the bassist for the gothic rock band Bauhaus and for Love and Rockets. He has composed the scores for a number of plays and films, and also wrote and directed his own plays, ''Silver for Gold (The Odyssey of Edie Sedgwick)'', in 2008, which was restaged at REDCAT in Los Angeles in 2011, and ''The Chanteuse and The Devil's Muse'' in 2011. His artwork has been shown in galleries internationally, and he has been a resident DJ at venues such as the Knitting Factory. David J has released a number of singles and solo albums, and in 1990 he released one of the first No. 1 hits on the then nascent Modern Rock Tracks charts, with "I'll Be Your Chauffeur". Dave McCarthy (Gaelic Footballer)
David McCarthy (born 1949) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer. At club level he played with Clonakilty and University College Dublin and was also a member of the Cork senior football team. Playing career McCarthy first played Gaelic football and hurling at juvenile and underage levels with Clonakilty and won numerous divisional titles in both codes. As a boarder at the De La Salle College in Waterford, he won several shield competitions, two Abbot Cup titles and lined out in the Corn Uí Mhuirí. McCarthy's studies brought him to University College Dublin where he won a Sigerson Cup title in 1973, while he also won a Railway Cup medal with the Combined Universities team the same year. His senior career with the Clonakilty club spanned over 20 years, during which time he ended up on the losing side in the county finals in 1968 and 1983.
