David Mathers (curler)
David Seth "Splash" Mathers (born May 12, 1991) is a Canadian curler from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. He currently plays second for the Glenn Howard rink. Born in Ottawa, Mathers grew up in the Waterloo Region. Curling career Junior's As a student at Kitchener-Waterloo Collegiate and Vocational School, Mathers won the 2007 Ontario Schoolboy Championship, playing second for Andrew Flemming. The following year, he won a Bantam championship playing second for Mike Flemming. Mathers would then move back to Ottawa to attend Algonquin College. As a junior curler, Mathers played second for the Mathew Camm rink at the 2011 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, representing Ontario. The team lost to Saskatchewan's Braeden Moskowy in the final. Kitchener-Waterloo Collegiate And Vocational School
Kitchener-Waterloo Collegiate and Vocational School, commonly called Kitchener Collegiate Institute or KCI, is a public secondary school in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. It is a member of the Waterloo Region District School Board. The school dates from 1855, making it one of the oldest high schools in Kitchener and Waterloo. Its sports teams are known as the Raiders. The 2011 BDO Canadian Open of Curling in December was held from December 14 to 18 at the K-Rock Centre in Kingston, Ontario. It was the second Grand Slam event of the 2011–12 curling season and the eleventh time the tournament has been held. The purse was CAD$100,000. In the final, Mike McEwen won the final over Jeff Stoughton in seven ends with a score of 5–2. He successfully defended his title from the last edition of the BDO Canadian Open, won his first Grand Slam title of the year, and won his third career Grand Slam title. World Curling Tour
The World Curling Tour (WCT) is a group of curling bonspiels featuring the best male, female, and mixed doubles curlers in the world. History The World Curling Tour was founded by former World Champion Ed Lukowich, with later assistance from John Kawaja. The World Curling Tour commenced in 1992, with men's events only at first. It replaced the "Canadian Curling Tour" held the previous season. The first season consisted of 48 events (with only one outside Canada), and was sponsored by Seagram's distillery. Teams earned points in every event with the top 30 qualifying for the season ending " V.O. Cup", today known as the Players' Championship. Its first president and CEO was Lukowich. John Epping
John Allan Epping (born March 20, 1983) is a Canadian curler from Toronto, Ontario. He currently skips his own team out of the Leaside Curling Club in East York, Toronto. Career Born in Peterborough, Ontario, Epping was a top junior curler, having won the Ontario Junior championship in 2004. At the 2004 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, his team finished with an 8-4 record, just out of the playoffs. He won the 2006 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship with Julie Reddick, Scott Foster and Leigh Armstrong. He won the 2007 provincial mixed as well, but could not defend his national title. After Juniors, Epping played third for Nick Rizzo until switching positions with Rizzo in 2006, and thus skipping the team. However, in 2007 he was picked up to play third for Olympic silver medallist Mike Harris. He'd only play one season for Harris before joining Wayne Middaugh's rink at second in 2008. Grand Slam (curling)
The Grand Slam of Curling (branded as the Pinty's Grand Slam of Curling for sponsorship reasons) is a series of curling bonspiels that are a part of the annual World Curling Tour. Grand Slam events offer a purse of at least CAD$100,000, and feature the best teams from across Canada and around the World. The Grand Slam was instituted during the 2001–02 season for men and 2006–07 for women (with the 2006 Players' Championship also considered a Slam), but some of the Grand Slam events have longer histories as bonspiels. 2011 Players' Championship
The 2011 GP Car and Home Players' Championship was a Grand Slam curling bonspiel held at the Crystal Centre in Grande Prairie, Alberta from April 12–17. It features a men's and women's draw, where the top sixteen teams from the Order of Merit rankings for the 2010-11 curling season are invited to compete. It was the final Grand Slam event for the season, and one of the last curling events for the season. The purse for the men's and women's event was CAD$100,000 each. Braeden Moskowy
Braeden Moskowy (born August 14, 1990) is a Canadian curler from Regina, Saskatchewan. He is a former Canadian junior curling champion and a six-time Brier competitor. Career Moskowy has represented Saskatchewan in two Canadian Junior Curling Championships: skipping the province in 2010 and 2011. At the 2010 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, he lost in the semi-final to Ontario's Jake Walker. At the 2011 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, Moskowy finished 12–0 in the round robin advancing to the final. In the final Moskowy beat Ontario's Mathew Camm to finish the week a perfect 13–0. Moskowy became the 5th team in Canadian Junior history to go undefeated.
