David LaGrand
David LaGrand (born August 13, 1966) is an American politician who is currently serving his last term in the Michigan House of Representatives from the 75th district, which he was elected to in 2016. In 2022, he ran for election to the Michigan Senate in the 30th district, losing to incumbent Mark Huizenga. He resides in Grand Rapids, Michigan with his wife, Melissa LaGrand, and four children: John, Issac, Helen, and Julia. Early life and education LaGrand is a graduate of the local Calvin College (now Calvin University) (1988) and the University of Chicago Law School (1992). Career After graduating, David returned to Grand Rapids in 1994 and worked at local law firm Warner Norcross & Judd while founding a local coffee shop. Kent County, Michigan
Kent County is located in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 Census, the county had a population of 657,974, making it the fourth most populous county in Michigan, and the largest outside of the Detroit area. Its county seat is Grand Rapids. Brandon Dillon (born April 27, 1972) is an American politician. He is the former Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party. Early life and education Dillon is a graduate of Catholic Central High School (1990), Grand Rapids Community College (1993), and Aquinas College (1996). Career Dillon was elected Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party in July 2015 after partnering with former Oakland County, Michigan Deputy Clerk Lavora Barnes to run as a team. Michigan Senate
The Michigan Senate is the upper house of the Michigan Legislature. Along with the Michigan House of Representatives, it composes the state legislature, which has powers, roles and duties defined by Article IV of the Michigan Constitution, adopted in 1963. The primary purpose of the Legislature is to enact new laws and amend or repeal existing laws. The Michigan Senate is composed of 38 members, each elected from a single-member district with a population of between approximately 212,400 to 263,500 residents. Legislative districts are drawn on the basis of population figures, provided by the federal decennial census. Senators' terms begin immediately upon their election. Republicans hold the majority in the State Senate with twenty-two seats; Democrats hold the minority with sixteen seats.
