David Kenny (athlete)
David Kenny (born 10 January 1999) is an Irish racewalking athlete. He represented Ireland at the 2020 Summer Olympics in the men's 20 kilometres walk. Career Kenny represented Ireland at the 2019 European Athletics U23 Championships in the 20 kilometres walk and finished in ninth place with a personal best time of 1:25:43. He again represented Ireland at the 2021 European Athletics U23 Championships in the 20 kilometres walk and won a silver medal with a time of 1:25:50. This was Ireland's ninth medal at the European Athletics U23 Championships, and first-ever racewalking medal. Kenny is coached by former Olympic medal-winning race walker Robert Heffernan. ''The Kerryman'' is a weekly local newspaper published in County Kerry in Ireland by Independent News & Media who are a subsidiary of Mediahuis. The newspaper was founded in 1904 by Maurice Griffin and cousins Thomas and Daniel Nolan. Independent News & Media, then known as Independent Newspapers Limited acquired ''The Kerryman'' in 1972. Racewalking
Racewalking, or race walking, is a long-distance discipline within the sport of athletics. Although a foot race, it is different from running in that one foot must appear to be in contact with the ground at all times. Referee, Race judges carefully assess that this is maintained throughout the race. Typically held on either roads or running tracks, common distances range from up to 100 kilometres race walk, 100 kilometres (62.1 mi). There are two racewalking distances contested at the Summer Olympics: the 20 kilometres race walk (men and women) and 50 kilometres race walk (men only). Both are held as road events. Approximately 60 athletes competed; the exact number was dependent on how many nations use universality places to enter athletes in addition to the number qualifying through time (no universality places were used in 2016).
