David Humble
David Gerard M. Humble (born 6 March 1967 in Dumfries, United Kingdom) is a retired male badminton player from Canada. Born in the United Kingdom, he later moved to Alberta and started to represent Canada in international tournaments. Career Humble competed in badminton at the 1992 Summer Olympics in men's singles. He lost in the first round to Darren Hall, of Great Britain, 15–6, 15–4. He was a finalist at the 1991 Irish International, where he lost 10–15, 3–15 to Jeroen van Dijk of the Netherlands. In 1995, he lost the final of the Australian International to Paul Stevenson. He then competed in the 1995 Australian International Championships. He entered the final but lost to Yifeng Shen. Dumfries
Dumfries ( ; sco, Dumfries; from gd, Dùn Phris ) is a market town and former royal burgh within the Dumfries and Galloway council area of Scotland. It is located near the mouth of the River Nith into the Solway Firth about by road from the Anglo-Scottish border and just away from Cumbria by air. Badminton is a racquet sport played using racquets to hit a shuttlecock across a net. Although it may be played with larger teams, the most common forms of the game are "singles" (with one player per side) and "doubles" (with two players per side). Badminton is often played as a casual outdoor activity in a yard or on a beach; formal games are played on a rectangular indoor court. Points are scored by striking the shuttlecock with the racquet and landing it within the opposing side's half of the court. Each side may only strike the shuttlecock once before it passes over the net. Irish Open (badminton)
The Irish International or Irish Open in badminton is an international open held in Ireland since 1902 and is thereby one of the oldest badminton tournaments in the world. It was however interrupted by the two World Wars. This tournament is currently a part of the European Badminton Circuit and takes place at the end of November every year as part of the home nations loop of international tournaments that include the Scottish Open and the Welsh Open in consecutive weeks. The tournament for most part and in recent years has been an International Challenge rated event. The recent exception was in 2012, 2017 & 2018 when the tournament was downgraded to International Series due to funding. Recent editions have been held in the Baldoyle Badminton Centre except for 2007 and 2011 tournaments which were held in Lisburn, Northern Ireland.
