David Hartnell
David Harold Ward Hartnell (born 29 June 1944) is a New Zealand journalist and media personality best known for his Hollywood gossip column and best-dressed lists. He was the first full-time celebrity gossip columnist in New Zealand and his work appeared in print, radio and television. His syndicated columns have run in magazines and newspapers around the world. Hartnell is the author of ten books, the Patron of the Variety Artists Club of New Zealand Inc and the Ambassador of St James Saviours. In April 2014 he was named Ambassador of the Prostate Cancer Foundation of New Zealand and in September 2016 the Patron of the Brotherhood of Auckland Magicians Inc. A gossip columnist is someone who writes a gossip column in a newspaper or magazine, especially a gossip magazine. Gossip columns are material written in a light, informal style, which relates the gossip columnist's opinions about the personal lives or conduct of celebrities from show business (motion picture movie stars, theater, and television actors), politicians, professional sports stars, and other wealthy people or public figures. Some gossip columnists broadcast segments on radio and television. The columns mix factual material on arrests, divorces, marriages and pregnancies, obtained from official records, with more speculative gossip stories, rumors, and innuendo about romantic relationships, affairs, and purported personal problems. New Zealand has contested 46 Miss World pageants since that pageant's inception in 1951. No New Zealander has won the Miss World title, although two have placed first runner-up. Billy T
William James Te Wehi Taitoko (17 January 1948 – 7 August 1991) better known by his stage name Billy T. James, was a New Zealand entertainer, comedian, musician and actor. He became a key figure in the development of New Zealand comedy and a household name during his lifetime. Early life Taitoko was of Waikato Tainui and Clan Campbell descent, leading him to reflect humorously in one routine, "I'm half Maori and half Scots. Half of me wants to go to the pub and get pissed, and the other half doesn't want to pay for it.". Career Taitoko joined the Maori Volcanics Showband in the 1970s and performed around the world. ''60 Minutes'' is the name of a television newsmagazine show previously broadcast in New Zealand on TV3. The show began in New Zealand in 1989 based on an American programme by the same name. The broadcaster of ''60 Minutes'' changed twice during the 1990s. It was one of TV3's flagship programmes when TV3 went to air in 1989, then in 1992 TVNZ won the rights to the programme. After being shown on TV1 from 1993 to 2002, TVNZ decided not to renew the rights the show from CBS, and the rights were reacquired by TV3. Following this, there was a fight over the www.60minutes.co.nz domain, which for a short time, redirected to the site on TVNZ's replacement ''Sunday''. ''Close Up'' is a half-hour-long New Zealand current affairs programme produced by Television New Zealand. The programme aired at 7 pm weeknights (straight after '' One News'') on TV ONE and was presented in its final years by Mark Sainsbury. The last edition was broadcast on 30 November 2012. '' Seven Sharp'', a current affairs show aimed at a younger audience, took its place in 2013. The new ''Close Up'' began broadcasting on 2 November 2004 as a replacement for the ''Holmes'' show immediately after Paul Holmes announced his resignation from TVNZ and that he would be presenting a similar show on Prime in 2005. The AM Show
''AM'' is a New Zealand morning news and talk show that airs on Three and was simulcasted on Magic Talk. It was presented by Ryan Bridge, with news anchor Amanda Gillies, sports presenter Mark Richardson, and social media presenter Aziz Al-Sa'afin. Amanda Gillies was made redundant at the end of 2021. She fills in when needed if no one else is available. It was presented by Duncan Garner until his resignation in August 2021. Launched on 26 November 1989 as TV3, it was New Zealand's first private broadcasting, privately owned television channel.
