David Darcy (artist)
David Darcy (11 August 19431 August 2020) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Footscray in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1960s. Darcy also played for and coached South Adelaide in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). Career Darcy was recruited from Sunshine YCW, a junior club that played in the CYMS competition. Sunshine Football Club (WRFL)
The Sunshine Football Club, nicknamed Kangaroos, is an Australian rules football club which compete in the Western Region Football League since 1978. They are based in the Melbourne suburb of Braybrook, Victoria, Braybrook. History Formed as the Sunshine YCW Football Club in 1959 as a junior club. They joined the "YCW National Football Association" playing its first senior game was in 1963. After winning three premierships in the YCW NFA, the club transferred to the Western Region Football League, Footscray Districts Football League in 1978. After losing consecutive Grand Finals in 1994 and 1995 in A2 grade the club was promoted to A1 grade (division 1) in 1996 and have remained in the top level of the competition ever since. At the end of the 2000 season with the change in the League's name the club followed suit by dropping the YCW from its title. Luke Darcy
Luke Darcy (born 12 July 1975) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with the Western Bulldogs in the Australian Football League (AFL) and now works for the Seven Network and Triple M covering the AFL and the Olympics. Early life Luke Darcy was born in Adelaide, South Australia, the son of David Darcy, who had played with Footscray (as the Western Bulldogs were then called) and played for and coached South Adelaide in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). David, originally a Victorian, moved his family to Adelaide where Luke attended Rostrevor College. AFL career Luke Darcy started his career with South Adelaide before his recruitment by the Bulldogs in 1993. Sam Darcy (footballer)
Samuel Adams Darcy (born Samuel Dardeck , as known as "Sam Darcy," 1905 – November 8, 2005) was an American political activist who was a prominent Communist leader in both New York and California. While active in the organization of New York City's unemployment march in 1930, he was perhaps most famous for his role in the 1934 West Coast waterfront strike and support for Harry Bridges. Background "Samuel Adams Darcy" was born Samuel Dardeck in 1905 in the Russian Empire, the son of Fagella Weissbly and Isidor Dardeck. In 1908 he and his family immigrated to New York. He spent his early years growing up in New York City, attending DeWitt Clinton High School in Midtown, and eventually New York University. At an early age Darcy witnessed his father, an ardent union member, severely beaten by police at a garment workers picket line. Magarey Medal
The Magarey Medal is an Australian rules football honour awarded annually since 1898 to the fairest and most brilliant player in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL), as judged by field umpires. The award was created by William Ashley Magarey, then chairman of the league. The current recipient is Aaron Young. History William Magarey was born in Adelaide, South Australia. A lawyer by vocation, he had an enduring interest in sports, although he did not play football. He was, however, an active sports administrator who, in 1897, became the inaugural Chairman of the South Australian Football Association (later renamed the SANFL). The sport at that time was known for often rough play, and Magarey wanted to help combat this, and help gain more respect for umpires. Western Bulldogs
The Western Bulldogs are a professional Australian rules football team that competes in the Australian Football League (AFL), the sport's premier competition. Founded in 1877 as the Footscray Football Club, and based in West Footscray in the old City of Footscray west of Melbourne, the club won nine premierships in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) before gaining admission to the Victorian Football League (which became the AFL in 1990) in 1925.
