David C. Cloud
David Caesar Cloud (January 29, 1817 – July 10, 1903) was an American politician, writer, and lawyer who served as the first Attorney General of Iowa from 1853 to 1856. He subsequently served in the Iowa House of Representatives, representing the Iowa's 25th House of Representatives district, 25th legislative district of Iowa from 1856 to 1858. Early life and education Cloud was born in Champaign County, Ohio on January 29, 1817. He moved to Muscatine, Iowa, Muscatine in Iowa Territory in 1839. Cloud was a carpenter and studied law. Career Cloud was admitted to the Iowa bar in 1846. In 1851, he was elected county attorney for Muscatine County, Iowa. Cloud served as the first Attorney General of Iowa from 1853 to 1856 as a member of the Democratic Party (United States), Democratic Party. The Political Graveyard is a website and database that catalogues information on more than 277,000 American political figures and political families, along with other information. The name comes from the website's inclusion of burial locations of the deceased (when known). It is also a pun; where bodies are buried can refer to the politicians accused of crimes or touched by scandal. History The site was created in 1996 by Lawrence Kestenbaum, then an academic specialist at Michigan State University, and later on staff at the University of Michigan.
