David Burke (born 25 May 1934) is an English actor, known for playing Dr. John Watson in the initial series of Granada Television's 1980s ''The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes'', which starred Jeremy Brett in the title role. He also starred as Joseph Stalin in the last two episodes of ''Reilly, Ace of Spies''. Early life Burke was born on 25 May 1934 in Liverpool, England, and trained at Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. Career In the theatre, Burke originated the part of Niels Bohr in Michael Frayn's ''Copenhagen''. Burke played Dr. Watson in ''The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes'' for the initial series and then left the programme after receiving an invitation to join the Royal Shakespeare Company along with his wife, Anna. David Burke (1854 – 11 April 1897) was one of the most widely travelled plant collectors, who was sent by James Veitch & Sons to collect plants in British Guiana, Burma and Colombia. In his later life, Burke became rather eccentric, preferring the privations of life away from his native England. Plant hunter Burke was born in Kent and joined Veitch as a gardener at Chelsea, London. In 1880, after expressing a desire to travel, he was asked to accompany Charles Curtis on a trial trip to Borneo, where they were instructed by Harry Veitch to collect specimens of '' Nepenthes northiana''; the search for the elusive pitcher plant was unsuccessful, but the pair discovered many other species, including many interesting stove ( hot-house) plants, palms, and orchids. David E. Burke (born July 26, 1967) served as State Senator for the 26th District of the Ohio Senate. He formerly served in the Ohio House of Representatives. He is the Chairman of the Senate Finance Medicaid subcommittee. Life and career Burke received his bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from Ohio Northern University and his master's degree in Business Administration from Capital University. Burke owned Dave's Pharmacy in Marysville, Ohio from 1997 through 2020, and served on Marysville City Council from 2004 to 2008. Davy Burke (born about 1987 or 8) is a Gaelic football manager and former player. He has been manager of the Roscommon county team since 2022. He formerly managed Wicklow. Career Burke's playing career (including underage with Kildare) was brought to an end by numerous injuries, including two torn cruciates and a cracked kneecap. He had a replacement plastic kneecap put in. Burke, who is from County Kildare, managed Kildare to the 2018 All-Ireland Under 20 Football Championship. Albany BWP Highlanders was an American soccer team based in Schenectady, New York, United States. Founded in 2003, the team played in the USL Premier Development League (PDL), the fourth tier of the American Soccer Pyramid, in the Northeast Division of the Eastern Conference. The team spent two years on hiatus from the league in 2008 and 2009, returning to competition in 2010, then folded at the end of the season. David Burke (Kilkenny Hurler)
David Burke (born 15 December 1963) is an Irish retired hurler who played as a goalkeeper for the Kilkenny and Wexford senior teams. Born in Urlingford, County Kilkenny, Burke first played competitive hurling during his schooling at Johnstown Vocational School. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Kilkenny minor team, before later joining the under-21 and junior sides. He made his senior debut during the 1984-85 National Hurling League. Burke enjoyed a five-year career with Kilkenny before later joining the Wexford senior team. He won one Leinster medal and one National Hurling League medal as a non-playing substitute. At club level Burke is a one-time championship medallist in the intermediate grade with Mooncoin.
