David Brine (born 4 April 1960) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Collingwood in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Brine, an East Ringwood recruit, made three league appearances for Collingwood, as a 20-year-old in the 1980 VFL season. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. The 1980 VFL season was the 84th season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The season featured twelve clubs, ran from 29 March until 27 September, and comprised a 22-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top five clubs. The Preston Football Club, which trades and plays as the Northern Bullants, is a long-established Australian rules football club based in Preston that plays in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Ray Shaw (Australian Footballer)
Ray Shaw (born 27 April 1954) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Collingwood in the Victorian Football League (VFL). His younger brothers Tony and Neville as well as his two sons Heath and Rhyce also played for Collingwood. Shaw began his senior career at Preston in the Victorian Football Association (VFA), where he won a J. J. Liston Trophy in 1973 for the Best and Fairest player in the VFA first division. A Collingwood Best and Fairest Award winner, Shaw captained Collingwood to the 1979 Escort Cup Grand Final, where they defeated Hawthorn Football Club to win their first senior title since 1958. After a fallout with Collingwood officialdom in 1981, Shaw returned to Preston as captain-coach and led them to the 1983 and 1984 premierships. Peter Weightman
Peter Weightman (born 15 May 1949) is a former Australian rules football player and coach. He played with Fitzroy in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Weightman, who grew up playing in the Preston District Junior Football Association, played his only VFL game for Fitzroy in the 1969 VFL season. A rover, he kicked a goal in a 24-point loss to Hawthorn at Princes Park. He played in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) for Preston from 1970 until 1976. From 1977 until 1978 he played with Yarrawonga in the Ovens & Murray Football League, before returning to Preston in 1979, both as a senior player and has the seconds coach. He retired from playing in 1980, finishing with a total of 118 senior games for Preston, but had continued success as coach of the club's seconds and thirds, leading both to premierships.
